Wolf steel case for the Mini?

I'm seeing that the Wolf steel cased ammo is the cheapest around. About $225 per 1000 shipped. I've shot lots of Wolf thru SKS rifles and it was all fine, but I've never shot any other Wolf ammo. Anyone use it in a Mini?

Re: Wolf steel case for the Mini?

I have used it on a limited basis, although I have never fired it in my current one. I never had any problems with it in a Mini. However, over on perfectunion.com , some of those guys are reporting broken firing pins when using Wolf. I will not use it in my ARs, as I have had several that have stuck in the chamber. Not a big fan of the stuff. It is dirty, stinks, and you can't reload the cases. The only thing I would not hesitate to fire Wolf in are AKs and SKSs.

I read about the broken pins, but others are saying they use it all the time and have never suffered a failure. The damn site has been down for days now.

Re: Wolf steel case for the Mini?

there has been a bunch of discussion about the steel case stuff..........some of the arguments are old considering the sha-lack (or poly-what-ever) on them gumming the chambers when hot..........don't know if that is still a problem. Broken firing pins, broken extractors....some do, some don't. With the money saved with the cheap stuff, firing pins and extractors are inexpensive replacement parts.....unless they break when you really need the weapon.

The russian designs seem to handle them fine but they are over-built even by ruger's standards......

my biggest concern about the import stuff in a nice rifle is quality control.

These guys have pretty good prices on the PMC. Anyone ever order from these guys?

Not to argue with Deputy, firing pins and extractors are cheap. However, Ruger will not sell them to you!!! You have to send the gun back to them. And just to clarify, the problem I had was with the newer, polymer coated Wolf that was supposed to put an end to the problems people where having with their ammo.

You may want to check this one out too Shawn:

When I owned my Mini-30 I ran some of the polymer coated Wolf 7.62x39 through it with no problems. My Saiga .223 likes Wolf too (which it should being a combloc gun) as well as PMC .223. Most of my brass cased .223 is theirs.

I have used these guys for a few things. They seem to be well-stocked and the cheapest I have found.
