That being said I love the 25-06 but also love the 270. I guess there are few that I don't love, unless of course your going to talk about the ones that are to kill really big stuff never shot them and don't care too, in the Army I shot the M2 machine gun loads of fun didn't have to pay for the ammo- or reload it lol. |

It is my favorite as well. With it I can hunt deer, bear, cougar, elk, and moose. I can hunt the thick woods of western wa or the plains in eastern wa. I could use a much smaller gun for deer, or a bigger for elk and moose. Few will do all the above with equal aplomb. Versatility is a good quality, especially during these lean times.

Will take anything in North America. I never felt the need for anything more powerful. My favorite rifle round by far.

The first centerfire rifle I bought was a Rem M700 in 06 in the early 1970's. I still have it and it's a decent shooter and I have taken deer, hogs and yotes in with it. These days I typically reach for my M-77 in 270 Win as I have a handload that will shoot to 3/4" all day long.

The 30 caliber is my favorite. I have the .06 and 30-30 Winchester, and reload both. I don't need a varmint caliber. I can push a little bullet, fast and far enough in the .06 that it will explode when it hits a coyote, and blow it nearly half in too. Its the best all around Caliber that I've found.

Lets see, I have Pattern of 1917, M1, and an 03A4 that will shoot the 30.06 but I have so many more Enfields that shoot the 303 British so I would have to say thay is my favorite round. Of course I shoot mainly the lowly .22LR now days. |

I have a Model 760 in 30-06 and a Model 700 in .308 . Like em both and am a fan of both. As far as performance, do you guys think that they are comparable? Just looking for a few opinions on the matter. Like I said, I am a fan of both. Last edited by Gunny G; 01-19-2012 at 05:13 PM. |

There isn't a big difference in power .. I think the 308 has edge in accuracy dept . Last edited by tx gun runner; 01-19-2012 at 06:14 PM. |

I have a Savage 111 30.06 and a Mosberg 100 ATR .308 and i like them both as well. If I had to choose, the .308 would end up as a favotite.

#1 Son shot two oryx with the .30-06 on the Ft. Bliss ranges with 180 gr .30-06 and wrote me and said he was glad I twisted his arm when he bought the rifle to get a .30-06 vice a .270, which would have been fine for NC deer at the time he lived at home. Of course he could use my ammo when he bought the rifle.
