.22 Mag critical defense

I bought some as highlighted in the postman and mail thread.

I shot some today and here is how it went. First I shot a 12 oz Anheuser bush unopened can of water, as I needed a registration shot because I changed out the the .22lr cylinder for the mag cylinder. I used a Win SJHP and that blew up the can almost as well as a .32 H&R mag HP does.

Then I shot a 12 oz Ty-D- Bol plastic bottle full of water with the critical defense ammo. It was ho-hum, the bottle fell over. I will give them credit where due, the exit hole was 2.5 times the entrance hole.

What do I think, I'd use the Win ammo if I used .22 mag for SD, which I might for small critters..

I use only 1 gal plastic filled with water to test my CCW loads for years . It gives me a good idea how one load or cal works against another one . Try it with the 22lr and then the 22 mag . Then the different between pistol and rifle . I think you will be surprised ...........

I usually use bigger jugs as well, usually 2.78 qt OJ jugs, so at least there is one constant.

I just had the 12 oz jug and wanted to try it for fun; I should have shot the last of those water cans I have for a better comparison.

I really do not use .22mag much, but, will be trying other mediums over time just for fun.

You know, retired old people need to take it slow.

Just for info, I go out shooting on a bicycle so it has to be one thing at a time.

I sold my only 22 mags yeas ago. I shoot refilled water bottles all the time with 22LR as they are cheap.

Larger cals I use one gallon jugs.

Version #2

People always ask what ammo to use or if I use brand X with a type Z bullet will it go zipping through my wall into the next room or into the next appartment. The answer is probably.

Here is what a .22 mag critical defense rnd will do in the best case hitting the wall studs. The critical defense rnd will go through 2, 2x4s and 9/16" into the 3rd. A regular .22 mag won't make it out of the second 2x4. I think that means it could get to the next room easily; but, the stud might stop it because of the width.

Incidently, both type rnds will only penetrate 1" of magazines.

I'm afraid to ask how you know all of this.

I was just giving you a bad time like you were shooting through the walls of your house.

Interesting report. I have been carrying CCI's in my NAA 22 Mag when I exercise walk. Sounds like it makes sense to switch over and the timing is good as I like to rotate rimfire loads frequently.
