Remington Core Lokt

I picked up a box of the 150's today. Mostly so I can test the gun and so that I'd have some brass.

Anyone hunt with this stuff? I never have. It's just about the cheapest 30-06 factory ammo out there. $19 a box.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

its good stuff............considered "low tech" in today's world of computer gee-whiz wonder bullets........

but it has an out-standing track record of success.........it has worked well in past decades and will continue to do so.......

matter of fact, all deer we have killed in the past 4 years have been with core-lokt.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

I have used Remington Core Lokts for my reloads for many years now. Never lost a deer yet if I hit them right. Killed a 6 pointer this year with my 30/06 that did not walk 3 steps from where I shot him.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

I lucked out with corelokts...My .270 really likes them in 130 grainers. I like R&P brass too...I'm sure there is better out there, but they work well for me.

Check out the CMP website, you might be able to get a good deal on ball .30-06.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

Yes, Rick. It's posted in the Bolt Action forum.

I can get fmj bullets from my local pretty cheap for plinking, but honestly, I think this will be strictly a hunting gun. I have my 223's for plinking. Much cheaper to shoot.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

The cost of the bullets is way less for the 223 then they are for the .308 bullets. I can get 200 224 bullets for $25 and 100 .308 bullets for around $19. The primers are the same and the 223 brass is a little cheaper too.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

All the 30-06, 6mm, .270, & .308 Factory ammo I have bought since I first started hunting with my Dad & Grandfather, has been Remington/Peters, & Remington Core-Lokt. It has always given Me exceptional results.
I am also convinced, after all these years, that Remington's brass is also top quality for reloading. I have 3,000 to 4,000 pieces of Rem. 30-06 brass, & about 1,000 pieces of Nickel plated Rem. 06 brass, with approx. 1/2 of it loaded at any given time. I also try to buy the bulk .308 /150 Gr. Core-Lokt bullets at the gun shows when they are available. Otherwise I use mostly Hornady's 150's. I also shoot the 110 Gr. Sierra Hollow point for Groundhogs, but it has become too much of a PITA, to change the scope settings back & forth, so the 6mm, with Sierra bullets goes for Hogs now, almost exclusively, with a 60 Gr. Sierra H.P. @ about 3,750 FPS, it is very effective.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

BH........you want the hammer of thor in your 30-06, load a 170 gr bullet designed for the 30-30 and back it off a bit to around 2500 fps..........i forgot the recipe, will try to find it.....

it ain't long range, but it puts them down with authority.........

i used this in some brush areas with "extreme" results.......the lungs look like they went puree in a blender..........

Re: Remington Core Lokt

I see that the 30-30 bullets are marked as such and the 06 bullets are marked .308. Are the 30-30 bullets .308 also?

Re: Remington Core Lokt

yes sir.........
.308

the 30-30 bullets are designed for 30-30 velocities......
you can load them in the 06 and speed them up a bit over the std 30-30 velocities.......and get rapid expansion and a huge exit hole.....

too fast is a bad thing for this combination and will result in bullet failure if you try to max it....

Re: Remington Core Lokt

Remington cor lokt bullets are great. I have had exceptional results with the factory loaded 165gr bullets. It dropped my elk last year with authority.

Re: Remington Core Lokt

In all of my hunting in N.W. Louisiana and E.Texas for whitetails always used the Rem Corlokt( RN) in 180 gr for both the 30-06 and .308! A lot of "Bang flops"! Also used the same for elk in Colorado! Good bullet!!

Re: Remington Core Lokt

I've read on other boards people using them with great success also. Must be good bullets. It's amazing that they are so cheap compared to most brands.
