I think we are gaining slowly, but steadily. Rifle ammo is in the best shape here, with pistol & revolver ammo trailing well behind. Wal-Mart is pretty much depleted of pistol ammo daily, as it seems some guys must wait for them to stock the shelves each morning. Guns of most all descriptions are once again generally available in our particular area here. |

I noticed that the gun shops around here and Wal-Mart have a lot of ammo on the shelf compared to last year at this time. Even looks like bulk ammo is coming down a bit.

shelves still purty bare at the local walmart.......pistol ammo there does not exist except for 40. 30-06 and some magnum stuff was about all that is left. Took a drive to Academy and they were a bit better. The 9mm on hand though was some kind of cheap steel case stuff. Steel is fine for the sks but i don't trust it in a handgun. they did have 45's and 38's. Rifle ammo shelves had alot of holes.......the low end std remington and federal stuff was gone........nothing left but preminum ammo at a preminum price. Gun sales appeared to still be brisk at Academy......they were selling 3 while i was there...........sure makes a poor boy feel left out and inadequate..... |

I don't think it was a retail hoax. Some of our local stores are filling back up, albeit with a lot of holes in the shelves. At its worst, I could not get any primers on a consistant basis and there was no ammo on the shelves. Now I can get primers on demand, just can't be picky about brand. A year ago, one of the largest, local gunstores was selling large pistol primers for $49.99. I still firmly believe that panic hoarding is what caused the ammo and reloading component shortage. Some stores took advantage and gouged on prices, but it was increased demand that stripped shelves bare. There was no slow down in production. Locally, prices are higher than they used to be, but most things can be found. The premium ammo seems to be the best stocked. |

The premium is all over the place here too. I guess people just don't want to pay $50 for 20 rounds of 30-06 ammo. It's crazy! |
