Short list for Comparison of Small SA Calibers' Power

22 LR -- CCI Stinger 32 gr. HP -- 191 ft. lbs.
22 LR -- CCI MiniMag 40 gr. Lead RN -- 135 ft. lbs.
25 acp -- Hornady 35 gr. XTP HP -- 63 ft. lbs.
32 acp -- Hornady 60 gr. XTP HP -- 133 ft. lbs.
380 acp -- Hornady 90 gr. XTP HP -- 200 ft. lbs.

...all things considered, of the 5 I'd rather have the Stingers...

...in a gun big enough to control the recoil...but I'd have no recoil at all...much prefer a .22 High Standard Snub 9-shot or a Beretta 21 to a PPK/S .380....you've got the smaller, lighter LCP...how's the recoil and control for second and later shots???

Re: Short list for Comparison of Small SA Calibers' Power

I can empty it pretty quick and keep it on a man sized target. I would think that it would take some work for someone with less experience with guns. It is snappy, and isn't reall accurate rapid fire past 5 yards. It probably could be with lots of practice. I figure, it's a 380, it's not made for a fire fight at 20-30 yards. It's a point blank self defense gun and nothing more.

Where would the 22 mag fall in the mix?

All I know is I wouldn't want to be shot by any of them, even the lowly .25 ACP.

... in the right gun-I'd choose it over the .380...like the HS 3" 9-shot revolver...

Re: Short list for Comparison of Small SA Calibers' Power

I remember reading somewhere that the .22mag has the same muzzle energy of a .38 spl.

Re: Short list for Comparison of Small SA Calibers' Power

I think I would prefer a 9 shot 22 mag revolver over the 380acp. Less likely to jam and the 22 mag round I think would be just as effective. Plus 2 more rounds.

...I think you're right...no recoil...easier to hit with....I carried a Nickle-plated High Standard 3" Sentinel MK4, I think it was in my boot for awhile...wish I had it back...trigger stacked badly but still fine for SD...you can find them in pawnshops occasionally...even a child could handle it...Taurus may make one...don't know...
