...you have a .22 Mag Revolver, derringer, or even semiauto...the .22Mag ammo's pretty expensive...can you SAFELY use .22 ammo in the .22 Mag for practice??? I know it won't cycle the action, but would you pose any danger by doing that? I know you'd get powder buildup like shooting .38 in a .357...but safety? How much accuracy would you lose???

If it's a revolver and has a .22LR cylinder, you can shoot LR in it. A .22LR uses a 'heeled bullet' which means the base of the bullet is truncated to fit in the case and the case is the same diameter as the bullet above the heel and the bore diameter for the LR is .223. The bore and bullet diameter of the magnum is .224 and the case is slightly larger, so if you shoot .22LR in a mag chamber, you will split the cases. Clear as mud, huh. Molon Labe Kim |

...I figured that it'd split 'em...but that wouldn't cause any safety problems, unless you cut yourself pulling them out, would it??? thanks for the info!!!

I've fired 22LR from both my Sentinal and my Single Six with the mag cylinder (misplaced the LR one for a while) and accuracy sucked but all that happened ws the shells balloned, did not split though. Fire formed to Mag shorts! |

If they split you can get gas in the face. It can also cut the cylinder wall which may cause harder extraction. Erosion at the front from gas passing the bullet in the long chamber may cause problems when you load magnums again. These are possibilities. Split cases are not safe. People do it. |

They used to sell the S&W Victory Models that were chambered for .38 S&W/ .380 British as surplus. The importers would ream the chambers longer and advertise them as "expertly rechambered to .38 Special". They had the same problems with bulged or split cases from the larger diameter chambers when the smaller .38 spec was used. I think some were reamed through and would chamber .357s. These were an accident waiting to happen. Some did this to .38 spec revolvers and even these were not safe. The Victory Models were fine revolvers in the original caliber. It was a shame so many were ruined. They sold very cheap. |

...Argosy magazine used to sell them for $4 or $6 in excellent shape...I was 'bout 11 and didn't know that .38 S&W wasn't the same as Spl...dreamed of ordering one but if Mom'd gotten the mail before I did I'd not have survived!!!

Californians mostly piss on the people who create jobs and pay taxes, and of course the people who defend the freedom they abuse.

Going back to California is something I would do to pay for my sins, certainly not for a vacation.
