Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

...talking with H and another old guy at Home Dippy, they both said they were using steel shot back in the 50s, that in McKinney and Greenville you didn't find lead shot in the stores there...just steel...I've never seen any...not one round...all my days until this morning...I ordered the shotgun shells at my first job and never remember even seeing the catalog sheets for steel...

Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

when ever i see 10 ga shells.............i get a wicked evil smile on my face as i pick them up and fondle them thinking about the payload and horse power.

Soon the realization kicks in about the pain and recoil associated with said power and the wicked grin turns into a "i'm no longer young and indestructable" type frown...........

Yeah the 12 is enough for me. 3.5" shells hit hard enough thank you.

Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

...I've only fired about 5 3" magnum 12 ga. rounds in my life...and about 4 10 ga #4 shells...all I buy are 2 3/4 or the Aguila Mini-Shells in slugs/buckshot...I'm into ALL the pain being on the OTHER end...

I have a lot of the 2.75" buck shot. That'll do the trick me thinks.

Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

i'm done buying full power defensive buck and slug loads........it's the reduced recoil stuff for me for all future purchases.....

don't ya just hate getting old?

i predict as the baby boomers hit retirement age, future trends in gun buying will be increased popularity for the 20 ga, 9mm, and 243.........

Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

I'd like to try them just for the heck of it, I've never fired a 10 gauge before. I have to admit shooting buckshot and slugs out of my Remington 870 is a lot of fun however. I'd like to try those mini shells too Dave, I've seen them advertised but never bought any.

Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

...they won't feed in just any shotgun...the ONLY one I've seen that WILL feed 'em is the Winchester 1200...the ads say the 1300 will, so I bought a great used one...it wouldn't do it...finally found myself a 1200...slicker'n snot...instead of 5 shots of 2 3/4", I load 8 in the magazine+1 in the barrel...no tube extension...with a max tube extension I could get to 17...that's silly so I won't...

..would work well as one kept in the barrel of any pump...don't know if they'll cycle a semi-auto, though...work well in doubles or singles...there are supposed to be modifications that can be made by kit for any pump...but they are nonexistant...also a pump supposed to be made for them specifically...in another country...forget the details...there are Winchester 1200s and Sears(Ted Williams Model 200) around enough that will feed 'em...I have a couple spotted here locally and two 1200s, too...if the work'll ever pick back up...may get another...

Re: Today I Saw some 10 ga....

Fired some 10 GA outta an Ithaca Roadblocker in 77 or 78...gas operated semi-auto. A buddy with a small gun shop somehow ended up with an early one. There were four of us, and we flipped coins for firing order, with th' loser goin' first. I lost...but, in a gas-operated gun, twasn't too bad...but...ain't done it again.

Deputy's got it right...gettin' too darn old to be knocked around! I, too, use reduced power buck n' slugs n' don't apologize fer it!

It's comical sometime...at qualifications...to watch big, tough guys wince when they're shootin full-power buck and slugs!
