Picked up 2 tins of #11 CCI caps last week and fired off a few with my 1851 Navy. They came out pretty distorted and I was wondering if that is normal or the #11's are to big. Any help would be appreciated. ![]() |

i have very limited experience with a percussion revolver.............but i would say from what i've seen it is the norm.......... the spring is stout/heavy on the hammer so at time the powder charge detonates, the blow back thru the nipple will not blow the cap off and into the mechanism........the hammer keeps it in place on the nipple under heavy tension. reduce the hammer spring tension for a lighter hammer fall, and blow-back might occour.........therefore the heavy hard hammer hit from stout springs will mangle the caps purty good. take it with a grain of salt.........just something i've read............... |

Thanks guys, that's the answer I was hoping for. Am now one step closer to actually shooting it. How about BP substitutes such as Triple Seven?
