Found this

Found this and I thought you mite find it interesting . Now you can see why to keep the powder away from touch hole in pan .... There is NO powder in pan in pic just spark ...

I doubt there is a barrel. They used locks like that as fire starters to light candles, stoves, fires and such. You put tinder in the pan and "flick your Bic". The sparks caught in the tinder and when you blew on it you had fire. Before matches.

When you make your own black powder and need a way to test it ... plus you can check your frizzen hardness out too ... This stuff work out great http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=7626/Product/KASENIT
