Why do you want to see, Mac, when you get these? Has he offended you?

Re: Dueling pistol

Sheepdog,
It's a shame, isn't it. Up through WW1 the French were not as professional or skilled as the Germans but compensated with an aggressive dash and elan that let them take on the world and strike fear into their enemies. In WW1 a French officer making an attack on an enemy trenchline was expected to take at least 10% of his casualties from his own shells or he was too timid and was not "leaning on the barrage" aggressively enough as he advanced. It served them well in the 1800s but the grinding attrition of WW1 ground up all but the dregs of French manhood and broke the spirit of the army and the nation. They have never been the same since. At least that is the way it seems to me.

Actually, I suspect it is reflected more in the leadership and national culture than in the soldiers today.

Dueling pistols were outlawed and illegal to have , so most were split up making them hard to find today . Smooth bores and flint bring the big bucks . If the ones for $10,000 are rifled they are worth a lot less money . I emailed them to see if they are rifled .....
