I've decided that if I get a new bolt gun, it'll be a lefty. I usually shoot righty's off my left shoulder. The problem is, there are far fewer choices in lefty rifles. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards a used remington 700 at my local. It's a nice gun, but a little more than I wanted to pay. I can get the SPS, but I'm not sure about the stock. Looks kind of cheap. |

Savage is one of the makers that sells a lot of guns for South Paws. You might want to look around at the gun shops. Sometimes they will cut you a deal on a new left handed model that they have had sitting around for awhile.

I got my Ruger 270 M77LH (Stainless laminated) for about 4 1/2 bills new a few years back. A very nice shooting rifle. More than adequate for hunting & varminting (a 90gr TNT loading, zipping along at over 3200 fps completely vaporizes woodchucks)

I have turned a small profit on 2 savage 110s Lefty's in the past.I got a bit more for them. But it took a bit longer to find a buyer.

i suggest you try out a left hand bolt first............complete with scope. being left handed i thought i just had to have one. But after all these years of working with RH bolts, when i finally got my lefty, it was awkward...............monkey having sex with a football type awkward................just a bouncing and screaming at it. traded it and never looked back.............. |

Deputy, do you reach over the top with your left hand to operate the bolt? I use my right hand. I keep my left on the gun. It works. Will the lefty shoot different? |

i use my right had working a RH bolt...........reaching over the top of a scoped rife is too awkward for me. My RH bolts i consider to be more or less single shots with convient ammo storage built in. lever actions and pump actions are way more left hand friendly in scoped rifles for me to use. If you still crave a 30-06 fast repeater, good deals can be found on remington pump action models 760 and 7600. They remind me of remy 870's.......... gunbroker has some deals on 760's........... |

It's gotta be a bolt. I've owned many and always shot them just fine with and without scopes. I've just always used the RH and thought maybe a lefty would be better. Maybe not. |

What are you looking at, as far as caliber, accuracy demands, stock choice and that sorta stuff? Molon Labe Kim |

I want a 30-06. It would be for everything from a varmint to big game hunting rifle. The stock would be pretty much anything. Wood, laminate, synthetic. Just no thumb hole stocks. If I go righty, I'm thinking Savage or Marlin.

It is awkward to get used to a LH bolt after shooting so many RH rifles. But it's nice that you can keep an eye through the scope down range while cycling another round in the chamber. I even have a LH rig for my K31 Swiss. Slicker'n snot (This is a borrowed photo) |

I still don't understand why a left handed rifle would shoot differently than a right handed rifle. is it just the use of the bolt? I can use the bolt on either side without a problem.

Better try one before you buy it. I tried a lefty and felt completly spasticated. I normally just drop the rifle from my shoulder, switch hands and work the bolt the same way the freaky righthanded people do. And that is only if I am shooting multiple loaded rounds. Normally in a bolt action rifle I just single shoot anyway. Been doing it that way since I was about 6 and am kinda gettin' the hang of it.

That's what I'm going to continue to do, Chance. I just got a RH used Remington 700.

I just went and put it back together and the battery is dead in my camera. I pulled it apart so that I could shorten the barrel a bit. |
