Dad's Rifle

My father surprised me today with the gift of this old rifle. I was 8 or 9 when he bought it and it was the first center fire I ever shot. It's a '98 Mauser action made by FN in Belgium and it has, what I think is the year of manufacture, 1951, stamped on the receiver. It has an Apex barrel and double set triggers. The stock is maple with hand cut checkering. The scope is a 10 power steele Weaver. It has been drilled and tapped for sight blocks on the barrel, so I have to wonder if, at some time it had a Unertle scope. The maker is a man named Reed and his was, at one time, in Cassoday, Kansas. Oh yeah, it's a .22-250. So here it is. If there are any Mauser experts here, I have questions.

Johnny,
I know very little about Mauser rifles. I dont' know if this is a large or small ring and I'm assuming that it's a 98, in short I don't know jack about them.

Re: Dad's Rifle

WOW WOW WOW. Beautiful piece of craftsmanship and the 22-250 shoots at about a zillion fps with no bullet drop in the first ten miles. What a combination. Congratulations.
