My nephews first gun...

I got this for my nephew who is turning 6 tomorrow. It's a Savage/Springfield M15 .22. I don't think you could get a more kid friendly gun as it's a single shot, you have to throw the bolt, and then you have to manually cock the bolt. His dad can supervise him, and keep the gun locked up when not in use...

Another auction purchase BTW, I got it for $50.

He'll love it. I had one in the early 90's and it was a great little gun.

No I was an adult, but it was a fun little gun. My neighbor told me to stop shooting it in my backyard, because I might hit his house. I explained to him that he was a c*nt and he should shut up.

If that don't work you could try pinching off his oxygen hose or loosening up the wheel chair ramp.

Re: My nephews first gun...

The last time I went to the range, I shot one just like it. It was a lot of fun.

My sister-in-law inherited when her dad died, but she had not shot it yet. I cleaned it up for her and my brother in law, and took them to the range (also bringing along my revolvers and my lever action rifle). It was a good day, even though it was right at the beginning of me getting sick. I had a hard time holding any of the guns up, but when I shot off the bench, I did all right.

That bolt action/manual cock thing threw me at first. I put the first cartridge in, and pulled the trigger ... nothing happened. Took me a few moments of staring at it to realize that you had to manually pull back the "hammer" after throwing the bolt. Gun turned out to be a sweet shooter though. I think it is over 30 years old, but I did not look it up.

Nope, just the model info, patent numbers, and a proof mark.

Re: My nephews first gun...

Nice catch John. My first rifle was a Win Model 68 with the same exact mechanics. Grandad gave it to me and put me in charge of keeping robins out of the garden. Now the grandkids and I shoot a lot of single shot 22's and really have fun. Those oldies are as accurate as a rifle can get.

Re: My nephews first gun...

There is something about the art of building with only enough to get er done that attracts me.If you look hard in some of my pictures you can see that in my construction of things like sheafs and counters made from wooden ladders and hardly ant supports and things like that.

I even do that when i type.I cut words down like cos or nite.
To see those old guns shoot good with about 4 or 5 parts total is sweet to me.All the trims and eye candy don't make them shoot.
