77/44

The shop I work at has one, and dang I really, really like the gun. Stainless, perfect size for deer hunting around here, but the price tag is crazy! $650! I just can't see paying anywhere near that for this gun. Ruger, like a lot of others, seem to be pricing themselves out of the realm of the working Joe.

Re: 77/44

The older I get the more I hate modern hunting guns . I have more fun taking a pole smoker out for hunting then my bolt gun . The last 4 deer I shot was 3 with my 44-40 Rossi lever gun with a peep and the last one was with my 50 cal flinter which was a lot more fun then a scoped bolt gun . If that 58 Zouave shoots good it will make a good hunting rifle and paid under $250 for it delivered to my door ....

Re: 77/44

i agree...........
but we now live in an age where
marlin 39's are $500+
browning hi-powers are $900+
and even the abomination made colt 1991a1's are $700+

the used market is in the same boat. cheaper imports continue to make in-roads. American gun makers have responded by adding their names to imported guns instead of trying to be competitive.

The ruger 77 bolt in 44 is a nich gun------ruger knows it. there is no competition and folks who want it bad enough will get it......if for no other reason than it will probably be dis-continued in a few years and go up in value. if i was a 44 nut, i myself would probably day dream about it. Some guns that have smaller demand and lower production numbers are higher than they should be because of the nich factor.

Re: 77/44

For that amount of money I have Savage bull Barrel with scope ready to go in 204 Ruger. I have been buying more Stevens and savage these days. The reason is the cost of Rugers.

Re: 77/44

My local had one of the Ruger 44's used and it was more than a new Remmy 700. Nice rifle, but for the price, they can keep it.

...my local has had a .44 levergun Ruger sitting in the same place for 4 years...the tag reads $500...I told him a year ago that he needed to rub it down with an oily rag...now it's got a fine coating of powder rust all over it...would need re-blued...and it's never been sold...shame....

Kano Kroil and light buff with 0000 steel wool will stop and remove rust and not hurt bluing .

...doesn't the rust penetrate the bluing and ruin it??? I've never bought one rusty...and only the sights and grip screws rust on my Rugers....

If you don't know the difference between a smoke pole and a pole smoker, you have a problem.

Not if it is surface rust . The Kroil really works great and one of the best bore cleans to boot . Read the 59 reviews , all 5 stars .. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=137203 ..

Re: 77/44

I'd pee right on my pants before I'd smoke pole. But to each his own I guess.
