I love Mosins, and that ain't commie propoganda

I picked up this 1944 91/30 Russian Laminate a couple weeks ago...Finally got around to shooting it today.

This is 9 Shots from about 70 yards standing, fairly rapid fire. I only shot nine as one of the mil-surp rounds I pulled out from a 10 round pack already had a split neck. As rapidly as I can shoot a bolt gun anyway.

Re: I love Mosins, and that ain't commie propoganda

is the ammo from russia with love?

i hear the czech sellior and belliot stuff is purty good. the last time i saw some NORMA 7.62 i thought i'd pass out from sticker shock! that stuff was close to $50/20 with some kind of special bullet..............too special for a white tail.....

some of the fellers around here have taken to using the cheap russian ammo and taking a dremel to the tip sort of making it a flat point with exposed lead. they say it shoots good enough accuracy wise out to a 100 and works real good on deer.

People used to do that when surplus ammo was cheap but you risk blowing a core out of the jacket and leaving the jacket in the bore. Don't know how often it happened but it can.

This was Bulgarian ammo...I don't know how old it was, but it came in 10 round wax paper packs tied with twine.

I have never tried them for deer hunting (That's what the .270 win is for) but I sure do like getting out and banging away with them. What else can I shoot where I can get 440 rounds of surplus ammo for about $100?

i like them because they make a great pickup gun and also make sort of a last ditch back-up gun. with those heavy iron sights, i think it could tumble from mountain top to creek bottom and still maintain a battle zero.

I call them neighbor guns...If something ever happened it would be a great gun to give to a neighbor that doesn't own a rifle and say, "Here take this and a couple hundred rounds of ammo, you watch my house, and I'll watch yours."

It looks like a good shooter. I like the looks. Looks kind of like a Musket that would have been carried by GW's men back in 1775 or so. I should invest in one or two of them.

I used to modify SKS rounds for deer hunting back when I lived in maine. I found out later that it was ilegal to modify a bullet in any way. I never nailed a deer with one, so I don't know how it would have worked.

Nice looking, and a good shooter = good for JGB.
Were are you getting your ammo from and are you using striper clips?

I bought this stuff from a local about 45 min away. I have stripper clips, but I don't normally use them. The stripper clips for these guns seem to be pretty thin steel and once they are used they sometimes need to be bent back into shape. The stripper clips for Mausers are a MUCH better design.

That's why I stay away from them old rifles. I can never figure out what ammo they shoot. I want a SoCom. Or a Garand.

I love them too. I have a 91/30 & two M44s. Watch that surplus ammo most of it has corrosive primers. Don't believe anything the asshole selling it say, assume it's all corrosive if it's not american.
