Almost 50 years ago, back in about1962 or'63 , I walked into my local
gun store and bought a brand new S&W model 37 Airweight Chief Special. The
gun store owner said I had to have a proper holster for it, so I walked out
of the store with the new 37 and a holster for it.The holster was black leather,
had a retention strap of some kind (can't remember whether it was a strap or thumbbreak)-tho probably was a strap.What is driving me crazy is that I cannot remember who made the holster and most important I have never found one made like it since then. It had a spring loaded metal clip on the
back that you clipped onto your plant waist band and belt. The spring was
a coil spring like on a clip board. You cold wear it strong side or cross draw,
carried up high and when you clipped it on , it Stayed on. It was so neat---
you could take gun and holster off or on in the blink of an eye, and the model
37 was invisible under a shirt or short jacket.
Any of you other "old" dudes here ever see one like I am talking about?

I can't help. Check ebay. You never know what you'll find on there. I just got a really nice holster for my Vaquero off there.

bucheimer perhaps............that brand comes to mind especially in black.............they had several styles..........

smith and wesson also had their own leather line back then...........i have one LH black with the pull thru strap for a j frame................at least i think smith actually made their own............nowadays i know they are thru a vendor.

I forgot about S&W making their own leather. I can picture in my mind that
the back of the nickle plated clip had lettering on it but can't remember what
it said. It just bugs me that I cannot remember. The gun store owner abviously
had it there in the store for the new 37 that he sold to me. I sure miss the
37 and that special holster. Had to sell them---my wife was afraid of guns.
Should have gotten rid of her(sooner).
