For years I struggled with finding the perfect CCW. Tried a Springfield XD, various Ruger P-Series, Ruger SR Series, Kel-Tec P11, PF9 and P3ATs, snub revolvers - various calibers, etc..... I finally figured it out. There is no perfect CCW. I settled on 1911s. I have several - Officer's Models, Commanders, Govt Models in 3 calibers. They are all pretty flat, have decent triggers, are pretty accurate, and they all work the same. It has saved me money on holsters. All of them fit the same holsters. |

......there is no perfect solution. holster buying gets expensive, changing guns gets real expensive........ for me, it has always been about pocket carry and snubs.............it has saved me a ton of head scratching and money over the years staying with one system.....and when you stay with one platform, you get very good with that platform. but........as Dirty Harry said, " a man's got to know his limitations".......to those ends, i am in the slow process of making some changes. |

There is no perfect CCW gun and holster , too many changes on your carry day . Weather is number variable for me . I carry different in summer then winter in gun and holster . If I'm riding my bike , driving a car or a long walk are 3 different holsters and guns . I must have 20 holsters and 7 guns just for CCW different combination carry . Sometime I pack a backup gun . Here in Tx with all the warm weather we have , my Glock 27 or my Kahr CW45 in ft pocket carry is my favorite CCW carry .

I have two Rugers I use for carry, an LCR and an SP101. I find as my hair turns white I prefer the simple operations of draw, point and shoot. The 38Spl LCR weighs in at 13 1/2 oz and is great for pocket carry which is my predominate method. The SP has now been relegated to a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB when the weather is cool enough for a covering garment and is sitting in the drawer next to me as I type this. Everyones situation is a little different but I try to avoid the places that are high crime areas and hence trouble. After 41 years of marriage and living in the country I don't wander around the streets much after dark. I am comfortable that 5 rounds will let me get out of Dodge and if I have doubts I throw an 8 round speed strip in a pocket. I really don't feel the need for high cap brass throwers although I do own a few with my P94 in 40 S&W having been totally reliable for the few thousand rounds I have put through it since I bought it new in 1994. |

I haven't had issues with the trigger set. I heard about that early on but haven't seen much published about that over the past several months. The latest I saw had the front sight mounted off center. The revolver was replaced by Ruger. Other than that it has been pretty quiet back for several months. Mine is carried a lot and shot enough to keep up my accuracy with no issues so far. It is a working gun, one I can't really warm up to as it's butt ugly but goes in the pocket out of sight and is a breeze to carry. The only holster I own is a Simply Rugged pocket holster. |
