With the busy life styles that most have how many license carriers actual have the time or make time to shoot their weapon of choice? My friend thast instruct's this course telle me most of his re-news only shoot when they come to renew, I find that shocking to me.
I shoot much better than I can write, I have never carried for penmanship, but if I took the same time as I do with my shooting I would have some of the best hand writting there is to see.
I just think we need to shoot more and practise our drawing also and play the what if game as much as we can. Most Police SO's Fireman and Correctional Officers play. Because when it happens ya got to have some sort of play already in your head. The Officers have their training to fall back on but what about the civilain that doesn't get that sort of training.
You need to shoot like your life depended on it, it may some day. No amount of practise or training can prepare you for it when it happens, but I think it can give you an edge. After the bg already knows what he is going to do.

I shoot my carry once a month and Nevada sweep 3 targets till I empty two mags and I try never run my gun dry . And all that said 50+ rounds a month , rotate my mags at that time also . And I load that ammo backup , I carry only fresh ammo I loaded in my gun .

The majority of my range practice involves a lot of drawing and point shooting up close and personal. As the range increases, the sights for a flash picture come into play.

i usually end the day with some distance/baracade shooting.

I don't shoot mine nearly enough. When I do it's 5-7 yards. Sometimes as far as 10 yards, but with the LCP it's a little iffy with a quick shot.

Well once I get my AR I'll practice self defense shooting out to 300 yards. Because we all know that you can shoot someone 60 yards away and call it self defense. I couldn't justify shooting someone in self defense unless they were up close and were a serious threat. 21 - 30 feet away is far enough. If they are further than that then they aren't too much of a threat unless they are shooting at me. Then I'll take cover and let them get closer.

I practice with my carry guns at least once a month. My two primary guns, Kimber Compact and Ruger Sp101, get shot the most. I usually fire at least a cylinder full from my bug/primary, a smith airweight. I shoot the smith with the cheapest standard .38's I can find, because my +p 158gr lswchp carry loads would shorten its life significantly. I shoot the other two with full power ammo.

I normally practice close and quick (0-7 yards). I end the practice with some accurate, slow fire at about 25 yards. Having a gun when you need it is the majority of the battle. Knowing how to use it well gives you a comforting edge. That is why I practice. Plus, it is a lot of fun.

IMHO, you will not perform well under stressful circumstances if you don't prepare properly. Accordingly, I practice my SD exercises every trip to the range (generally twice per week).

Same here. I'm retired and have plenty of time. I'll shoot a lot of .22LR in a variety of weapons and maybe one mag of my carry pistol. Once a month I'll do just carry pistol and might shoot a couple hundred rounds.

To the title, I shoot 2-3 times a week; not nec the carry handgun, but, after awhile a handgun is a handgun if you are familiar with it.
