38 spec is for wheel guns , 9MM is for bottom feeder , but why carry a 9MM when 40SW fit in same size gun and has near the power of a 45ACP . I don't like the 38+p or 357mag for pocket guns , the muzzle blast and muzzle jump makes for slow recovery for 2nd shot over 38 spec . This is my point of view and not trying to get in a pissing contest .

I have a few or more I carry regularly. A G27,LCR, Smith J frames just to name a few. For serious business I go to my Sig P245 or G30 w/ Trijicon NS.

My G27 is usually my night gun. It has Trijicon NS and the Lasermax .Ole green eyes with a red nose.

I own at least one of each calibur you mentioned partner. The only one I have never carried for SD in civilian mode is 9mm. (I've plenty experience with the 9, in uniform.
No pissing contest. I asked for opinions and points of view in consideration of the threads context, and my answer. "Always looking"

my world still goes round...............

i have as of late been seriously considering the ruger LCR........just still not exactly thrilled with the trigger return as she seems rather weak and could be easily short-stroked............but that is a training issue...........and a lot of years of being accustomed to smith triggers.

I have the 38+P LCR. I do like it and carry it often. Although I prefer carrying a Smith "J" frame. The ''J" frames to me carry better. I like the 642 or 442 and the others with the internal hammer. I can slip it in my front pocket and not even know it's there. There is a difference in size. I can't use my "J" frame holsters for the LCR.

Why change when it's worked for you for years? I like the LCR but wouldn't buy another one if something was to happen to this one.

the attractions to the LCR......over an air-weight smith.........

the trigger pull (still questioning the return)....no need for gunsmith services.

the pinned front sight......gives affordable options for replacement without gunsmith services, and with my eyesight and age, options are good.

no hillary hole in the sideplate of the weapon to worry about.......perhaps an over-blown issue than can be corrected or ignored......the debates continue to rage and i am still on the sideline.

as a lefty, a personal preference for the ruger cylinder release latch system.

for decades, the smith was the only game in town for me concerning airweights and pocket carry as i would not consider a taurus and the colt cobra was too big.

Ruger presents a pocket carry airweight option with some attractive features.

i have depended on smith airweights since the 80's........on duty and off-duty. it will be hard to break from them and that trust.........but as i said, there is a new player in town that offers attractive features..........and it is a Ruger, a brand that i have come to trust as equally well as Smith when it comes to handguns.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me.

I asked the wife if she wanted any of my firearms. I am passing them down to my Son and Daughter. She said she wanted the LCR. (.357)

I actually carry that little bugger quite a bit. I like it. After the first shot, if I don't let the trigger all the way up, sometimes it doesn't catch. "short stroked". That scares me so I practice trigger control "both directions" with it so it becomes, second nature.

This is the only firearm I've ever had that issue with. Has anyone noticed this on their LCR?

it was a concern for me with a 38 spl LCR that i had some range time with........i figured it was me being accustomed to the smith..

i have been known to short stroke a detective special before......same issue.

I have not shot a LCR much; but, both the guy I was shooting with and I did not have issues with the trigger.

I can't get used to the LCR's boot grip. It eats recoil like a champ but is just crazy sticky. They had an option for a smooth rubber boot but seem to have dropped that option. If Hogue would offer them direct then the LCR might go back to being an option. But for now I would rather have a new 442/642 since they are coming without the ILS in the side now and I have my choice of about a million grip options. I added a bit of green sight paint to the top of my old 637 and it was just about impossilbe to not draw the eye to it. Sadly, that frame cracked and I have yet to repeat that to the new one. I wish they would dump the ILS from the 637 and 638 like they did on the 642. As long as I'm really dreaming, I would love to see the Model 36 come back without the "classic" name and without the ILS. I prefer the all steel.
