Super Redhawk Opinions

Super redhawk (44 mag) with the 7.5" barrel. Asked a guy at Ranch and Home (if you dont know what it is its basically like a cowboy version of walmart but expensive as heck). Basically said the thing was comfortable to shoot for the way it was designed so the recoil doest throw you off your feet, and that its one of he most durable double action revolvers out there. Any take upon this one? trying to stay with the 44mag for the purposes it will be used for.

Yes, probably the strongest .44 Mag ever built. Are you going to hunt with it? The 7 1/2 inch barrel makes a dandy hunting revolver. Have had a couple over the years, and you can shoot them all you want and when your son gives the gun to your grandson, it will still be going strong.

Your pa must be a really large man to think about carrying a concealed super redhawk with a 7 1/2" barrel. It can be done, but probably not comfortably. They are really nice guns, but kind of ugly in my opinion. The redhawk is a much better looking gun.

Re: Super Redhawk Opinions

yes, they are durable and strong and one of the stoutest DA revolvers on the market......and if i am anything....i am a ruger man..

but...............
for me, they are too cumbersome and out-of-balance in that configuration as a hunting, steel games, or defensive tool. If this is for hunting and games, i would prefer a Thompson/Center Contender for sheer accuracy and flexability of barrel/caliber change.

if this is for defense, i just might go JB's line of thinking....and dare i say it....a 10mm glock for weight savings. power, and a definate advantage for concealment compared to the ruger.

you have no idea how hard it is for me to say something nice about a @#$%^& glock.....but a 10mm does nave some interesting aspects as a combo hunting/defensive round at least given the range limitations of the platform.

a @#$% glock is light weight and the 10 mm can definately be a good hunting/defense round.

and when i'm talking 10mm, i mean the stout factory loads....not the neutered leo loads..............the glock can handle the powerful stuff.....

idk if he will pack that as a consealed. But definetly looks like a nice gun to have, all of them. I would feel safer with a double action revolver then anything else, seems more reliable.

Re: Super Redhawk Opinions

probably the most qualified 10mm guy i am aware of on this board is montanan as he uses a glock 10 mm for hunting/bear defense.

the 10 mm in its true form is a powerful round and rivals the power levels of the 41 magnum revolver round.

but the FBI........in ever true govt beauracratic form....screwed it up.......... took a shine to the caliber and "reduced loaded" it into a 10 mm "lite" for law enforcment purposes by severely down-loading it..

therefore, there are basicly two distinct classes of 10 mm ammo available as in a "lite" LEO load and a full power load......

in the revolver world, we are use to the "special" being the first round out the gate more or less. we had the 38 spl which lead to the 357 mag. we had the 44 spl which lead to the 44 mag.

well, the 10 mm was born a full-grown sucker, but the fbi chose to reverse engineer it and make a "special" out of it neutering it by down-loading. The neutered form became briefly popiular until replaced by the 40 s&w which is nothing more than a 10mm "special" with a sp primer.

this article can better explain it than i can..... http://the10mmautoisaliveandwell.blogspot.com/

Re: Super Redhawk Opinions

I wouldn't carry a 10mm for one reason. I read an article by Masoob, about a guy who was convicted for manslaughter because he used one. The jury decided that it was too much gun, and was meant to insure that anyone shot would not survive. Crazy, I know, but you can never tell what a jury will decide if ever you find yourself in front of one. Lots of anti-gun people are on juries too.
