OK, lets go on to double actions. Who makes the best one? This is a lot harder for me, as I love Smiths almost as much as Rugers, and am pretty dang fond of Colt too. But, I gotta go with Ruger here again, because in my experiences, they have been the most trouble free. Smith has a better trigger pull, most of the time, but Smiths are more prone to go out of time, once again, in my experience, yours may be different.

if this was "who made" the best.........i might be inclined to say smith or colt... but since the poll is "who makes"...............ruger lots of personal bias again here......smith makes specific revolvers/models in so many flavors/configurations/calibers that it is awsome............and i will take a smith to get what i want........so on an "apples to oranges" comparison, smith is best as far as options. oz for oz, i still think ruger makes a better product in comparable revolvers..........but then again, those comparisons of "apples to apples" are far and few. probably the "best" revolver i've ever owned was a colt python...........fit, finish, action, accuracy, sex appeal, confidence.......that puppy had it all. But that weapon is out of reach now as a "custom shop" gun. |

I seemed to agree with everyone else by the looks so far.. Its hard to judge Farley if you haven't owned any hi grade weapons so I thought of the ones in my budget range and have had 1 . |

Thats why I sold it I couldn't live with that trigger . My new Smith is 10 lbs out of box without a drop of work . In one of the big Stock service revolver matches [IPDA] there was 150 shooter , 149 were S&W and 90% of them were 686's , that should tell you something . I can't find the article . http://www.gunnuts-tng.com/2009/04/idpa ... olver.html |

I am talking about the older smiths, i have no experance with the newer ones. I can't ever go with Ruger with the experance I have had with thesingle action here of late or have much good to say about their customer service either. Bad thing about Smith is that their guns can be out dated quickly and that sucks trying to get parts some times. Heck just because the guns is 40 years old it doesn't know its out dated does it???? |

I am a huge fan of ruger revolvers. Lately, I have been carrying my sp101 more than any of my other choices. But, I had to vote for Smith and Wesson. I keep droolin on various N frame Smith's at the gunstore, especially the blued Mountain Gun they have. Unfortunately, they are currently out of my price range. I think the ruger revolvers offer a better value and probably a little tougher, but Smith's are a step up in quality. |
