My revolvers!

Hey, Shooters!
It only got up to 85°, yesterday, so I got out to my range with my S&W 586 and shot some .38 Special reloads. Shot a really good target, 153 gr. RCBS semi-wad with 3.7 gr. 700X and WSP primer. Use this load at your own risk! It was a very pleasant afternoon!
A friend is coming out, today, so we,ll probably do some more shooting!
Dick
Correction: I just noticed that this target was marked as shot with a 6" Mod. 28. It should have been marked as "586".

Re: My revolvers!

Thanks to All, especially friend Jeff the Machinist!
Deputy,
Don't know if anyone still manufactures one, anymore, but they turn up used quite often! I like the old ones better, anyway!
Kim,
About 25 miles Southwest of Hutch! On a sandhill! In the sticks!

Re: My revolvers!

Deputy,
Some of the Classic model S&Ws are listed with bright nickel as an option.

Re: My revolvers!

The 686 is my all time favorite gun . 700x and Unique are the only 2 powders I know of that are not placement sensitve which make them a great powders for reduce loads and no wads needed . Looks like you have a magic load there and thats good shooting too .

I have a exgirlfriend in Harper not far from you getting started in Cowboy action shooting ...

Re: My revolvers!

I forgot to mention, those are a set of Herret 'Shooting Stars" stocks that I bought back in the 60s for $11! They are almost $ 100, to buy now!
Gun Runner,
I like the 686, too! I have one, that I shoot more than this 586. I bought it on an auction site about 15 years ago for $300. Wish you could buy them for that, now! I'll enclose a pic. The stocks on it are Hogue wood.
I use 700X and Unique, too! I loaded all my shotgun shells for my son and grandson, a while back and had a lot of 700X left over. I decided to try using it up in my pistol shells and was pleased with the outcome!
Harper is about 50 miles south of here!

...if you like wood stocks, no better than Herrett's...had some Shooting Stars on a M19 4"...always meant to get some Jordan Troopers but never shook loose the big money...

Re: My revolvers!

They are OK for target type shooting but unless you have bear paw hands I think Hogues rule for DA shooting.

Re: My revolvers!

I hate the looks of the retread on my 686 , but I have small hands and I can control the DA better with it . I've been shooting SA guns so long in SASS / CAS matches that I don't like the DA guns even in SA mode . So I sold my 686 and kept the BH and yes the 686 was more accurate , but I can shoot the BH faster and more accurate in speed shooting in my opinion .

Re: My revolvers!

After seeing some Cowboy shooters in action I can understand that, especially with the massive amount of practice you have with them. I have put most of my effort into DA shooting so the DA revolvers work best for me. I am enjoying my SA rugers though and I would like to get the new smaller BH in .44 spec and the new .45 model that is out. The .45 ACP in the small frame sounds irresistible to me. Of course those white grips have to go!!

Two nice looking revolvers, Gun Runner!
I only have one SA, a 4 & 5/8 "Uberti in 45 Colt. I prefer double action.

Re: My revolvers!

Good looking gun .... I love the new Uberti with the redesigned springs . All 3 guns are "P"jr's . The 22 matches the 38's in size , weight and barrel length is for practice . The 38 are for SASS/CAS matches if I could get my shoulders working again . All are 4 5/8 , the 38's have a shorter ejection rod and don't know why .
