One of my best friends and shooting buddies called me up last night and said that a double action revolver he has had for years is acting up on him. He said its well worn, but had worked for a long time. Now it seems to only work when gently using single action, and when pulling the trigger to fire in double action or quickly in single action the cylinder over rotates. Anyone got any helpful advice? Ill try to find more out about the gun today.

sounds like the bolt stop (or cylinder stop if you prefer) is not properly engageing in the slots in the cylinder to stop rotation. but that is a guess from someone who is not a smith. i would of course clean the devil out of it on a detail strip paying close attention to the bolt stop and its associated spring. the bolt stop i guess could be worn and needs replacing, or worse yet the notches on the cylinder are soft and are dishing.....i have seen that in one italian old black powder pistol. |
