A lot of those Rugers are from Canadian law enforcement I think, but all the gun makers will make special runs for law enforcement agencies as long as the quantities are big enough. The DAO Smiths were made by the factory for law enforcement, and they made special finishes for NYPD and possibly others.

Sheepdog,
It's not hard to grind off the hammer spur so it does not snag. Then you can start the hammer DA and grab it with your thumb to cock it if you need the SA shot. I've done this on a 2" Colt.

+1 on that.........
been quite a few revolvers sneaking back over the border from canada...

and here a few years back some rugers had been re-patriotated from egypt. and recently smiths from austria.

CAI stands for the importer.....Century Arms International.

...here ya go...and a job opportunity....

...I doubt they'd tell you where it came back from but you can try...they also had a Florida operation...yahoo them for that address/number if you want to...if they'd co-operate, maybe you could find where they're selling them and maybe they're in the used range...

At that pay, they'd have to throw in a gun a month.

Re: New To Me GP100

...one piece at a time...shouldn't be a problem...

...sorry, Dep, didn't mean to dupe your post...the idea of Century hit me and I just went wild without reading your post....(insert rabbit here)

...Mac, I had my M60 Stainless Chief and my M65 both done that way...grooved the top of the hammer/firing pin on the Chief to get better purchase with my thumb...left the M65 smooth and used the other hand to cock it...it works...gotta be wide awake lowering the hammer if you don't fire it, though...true DAO is doubtless much safer...

Re: New To Me GP100

the only problem i have with a bobbed hammer on a service revolver is the majority of duty holsters out there won't secure the gun properly with the thumb snap since the hammer is gone............

There are options available, but not near as plentiful......especially the used market.

on the other hand...........................ya'll could just trade out hammers.........most likely a drop-in fit...........

Re: New To Me GP100

Ruger doesn't sell hammers. I'd have to send it to the factory and they'd only do it if it originally left the factory with a regular hammer. Changing it out wouldn't be a problem. Would probably take 10 minutes. I like the bobbed hammer.

Re: New To Me GP100

I really like those DAO GP100s. I love my 4 inch full shroud. I would love to add one of those, and a 3 inch to my stable. Oh, what the heck, I will take a 6 and a 5 inch while I am living in fantasy land. One half shroud and one full shroud each if you dont mind. Oh, and one blue and one stainless of each. Arrrgh! I have GP envy override!

Re: New To Me GP100

...I THOUGHT I loved my M65...when I balanced the 3" GP in my hand...and shot it...I found out what love really is...they are awesomely made and shoot better than the lighter Smith, in my hand...wouldn't mind one like BH's at all...no adj. sight models for me...

Re: New To Me GP100

I'm glad you got to trade for the 4" since that's the barrel length you wanted Shawn. And of course being a Ruger you can use it and abuse it and it'll still come back for more.

Re: New To Me GP100

Other than the Ruger factory, no idea. If I ever get a chance I'll call Ruger and see what they can tell me.

Wait, are you talking about the takes a lickin and keeps on tickin?
