From the Michael Bane Blog: Finally got some trigger time with the Ruger polymer-frame .357 LCR revolver today with Hornady 158-gr .357 self-defense loads. Yeppers, it bucks a bit. But quite honestly it doesn't buck as much as metal-framed ultralight .357 snubs. The only consensus we could come up with is that the polymer frame is absorbing a portion of the short, sharp recoil impulse. It's not super pleasant to shoot with the heavy loads, but you don't get a snub as your primary range gun. And it's got the same superb DA trigger — the best on any snub I've ever handled, and I've handled a whole bunch. If you're at all recoil-sensitive, I strongly suggest you chose the 17.1 ounce .357 over the regular 13.5 ounce .38, then shoot .38s in the heavier LCR. I shot 158-gr Hornady .38+P self defense loads in the .357 and it was controllable and painless. Regular .38s would be downright pleasant to shoot,. I'd kill to have one of these in .22LR (take note, Ruger...pleeeeeeeease...). |

"It's not super pleasant to shoot with the heavy loads" That has to be the understatement of the year! |

357 in a 5 shot snubbie is not for me............even in the heavier smith model 640...... this 357 LCR looks interesting for the 38.... i tried a regular LCR with 38+p's....i thought the thing kicked more than an air-weight smith, but recoil is such a subjective thing. |

I wouldn't want to put a lot of 357 rounds thru it, but I'd still get the 357 version. Then I could shoot 38 +P and 357 would always be an option. I don't think I'll be owning one any time soon though.

I’m going to see if I can rent one and give it a try, yep I think I will do that.

Do it up, Danny. I bet the mag loads will hurt a little. |

I bought an LCR in 38 Spl earlier this year and pocket carry it with Buffalo Bore LSWCHP-GC's. I then tried to duplicate that load and came within 100 fps with my handloads. It has Rim Rock bullets (which are the ones BB uses) and I loaded with 6.0gr of Power Pistol and a Win SPP (what I have on hand). I chronied the Buffalo Bore out of my 2 1/4" SP and my LCR (1 7/8") and averaged 1,037 fps out of the SP and 1,017 out of the LCR. The LCR was snappy with the +P's but once or twice around the cylinder and recoil it isn't an issue but actually fun. The thing I like about the LCR is the OTB trigger. It is smooth all the way thru and you can get good accuracy with it. It isn't pretty but at 13 1/2 oz and with good accuracy I like it. |

I've thought about one for carry, but I carry the LCP or a 1911 all the time and it would probably sit and collect dust. |

The older I get the more I like revolvers. The 1911 is a great platform and the 45 ACP cartridge is the best but the cocked and locked carry always gave me the heebie jeebies. The revolver probably isn't any safer except the recesses of my mind. I wound up trading at Kittery as I got $75 more for my trade in's than Rileys. It was time to get rid of a couple of queens. |

I don't have any queens. I shoot all mine. Some are even a little beat up. I do trade all the time though. I'm always wanting something different. |

my main dislike i guess about the LCR series is the grip......... so far, everything grip-wise seems to be either the stock hogue or the stock crimson trace....... i would like to see more grip options...... |

Deputy: There is also a boot grip that Ruger offers with it. It may have to be purchased separately. If you shoot one I think you will really like the trigger. It's DA but real smooth and breaks clean. |

Bet he wouldn't like this fella I work with either. No earring, but he has a pony tail. But, the guy knows his stuff, especially ARs, FALs, and the like. He asks me all the revolver and Ruger questions, I send all the tactical BS to him. | |
