What a pain to take down the thing and hold that bottom piece with 1 finger get the top all on and back together. Those side pieces always screw with me to get in place.Always glad to put the trigger housing pin back in. |

The Winchester 1300 pump has an internal retainer that hold the magazine spring in place. They tell you in the disassembly instructions to screw the end cap back over it one you get the slide off. I forgot once and that thing launched in my workshop. Took me about 3 hours to find the stupid thing and the shop is small. |

Haven't shot the tactal one yet but the regular one is the one I posted under Snuffy and shooting all the birds that one day. Time will change your mind sometimes and if they work good for you then its all you need. |

Ornery - The Mossberg 600 was my favorite field gun - extremely nice wood, twin side rails and smooth as butter. I killed many a bird with that gun. Then about 5 years ago, I went on vacation and when I came back it was gone. Along with all the memories of those hot summer days hunting the wheat and bean fields that gun evoked each time I picked it up..

in leo circles.....it is constantly the remington 870 that has the good rep........easy to understand the way the guns are neglected and abused........that steel receiver can handle the abuse and the blueing on the receiver is superior over the paint on the mossberg. i still perfer the handling characteristics of the mossberg......never have managed to short-stroke one or get a dbl feed as in the remington. my first choice is still the ithaca......which is the biggest pain of them all when it comes to maintaince..............but i just like ithaca. |

I've owned some pretty nice shotguns over the years, but right now I have an old Mossberg 500 field model, a Mossberg 500 camo turkey gun and a Browning BPS riot gun. I learned to shoot with a Win 1897 with a hammer. I guess I shot it so much that the only place I think a safety belongs is right under your thumb. I shoot these guys better than all the expensive guns I owned - don't know why - maybe they just fit me better.

I picked up an 870 Supermag for a great price from a Wal Mart that was going out of the gun selling business. It fits ok if I have heavy hunting clothing on (aka duck blind) but ordinarily it is too short for me so I added a slip on recoil pad and the extra inch or so helped it a lot. I used it for claybirds in our first year in the TX RV park but then decided it was time to treat myself and got a Ruger Red Label and it fits like it was special made just for me. I actually like the position of the Mossberg safety as I have an old beater 20 ga that I have had for 30+ years and if you are bird hunting it just seems a more natural spot for it to be. Maybe it is because as a kid I had an old single shot 16 Ga that I had to cock the hammer before I could shoot. |

I can pick one up and sit in my chair for hours on end thinking of all the hunts that I have been on. Sitting around after the days hunt talking and joking with each other. Listening to the older men telling their tall tails. You've lost much more than a shotgun you lost a great friend as well. |
