Rubber grip cleanup

The rubber part of the grips on my SP's and GP's are getting sticky and cruddy. I have been removing the grips when cleaning the guns but would like to know how to clean them and figured I would ask before experimenting and possibly screwing them up.

Any suggestions?

Soap, water, brush. And Palmolive has a lovely scent.

Just makes sure you take off the wood panels.

Just used the WD-40 and it worked like a charm. Shoulda known since WD-40 is the best general purpose gun lube and cleaner yet produced.

I read that wd-40 turns gummy and causes a lot of problems in the cold weather.

W water D displacement 40 is the 40 formula . It not a good lubricant , it goes away in about a week . It's a great cleaner also . I have a white leather interior , a little WD and the dirt and grease comes out . In guns I clean black powder guns with soap and water , after blowing them dry , I hose them down with WD and blow dry again , then I use a good oil and grease to finish them up . If you hunt in the rain , when you get back to camp dry gun off and hose it down with WD and dry with rag . It is a non-conducter of electric , you can clean electric motors and parts . If your dist in your car get wet and won't run hose it down with WD and NO need to dry it off .

Re: Rubber grip cleanup

I had never given any thought to using WD-40 for anything other than metal, specifically steel but it makes perfect sense. Okay, thinking back I have used WD-40 on any number of rubber items found under the hood of a car. Hell, my shop has not been without a can at any time I can remember.

Re: Rubber grip cleanup

If you got WD40 and Kroil you can do anything you want to a car . Kroil let you take exhaust bolts without braking them off . soak them and tap with hammer come back a hour later soak them and tap with hammer again and they should walk out . Best to leave over night . It take copper and lead out of gun barrel better then 95% of the junk sold in gun shops . I never leave in a gun longer that a hour . It clean too good after you dry it run a wet Hoppe patch to lube barrel and run a dry patch in hoppe will leave a coating in you dry it out . The top benchrest shooter use Kroil . Out of 48 reviews everyone that used it gave it 5 stars , not one 4 star or less of of 48
