does anyone know where to get a "flame hardened" wipe on finish type solution? I read about such a deal but can't remember where and haven't been able to find it again. Thanks |

do you mean color case hardening? brownells has some of the kits and chemicals for such but it requires a furnace i think.......... i have heard that some outfits like beretta use a cold chemical process that duplicated color case hardening on their single actions for appearences only-------don't have a clue what it is but it does seem to exist. |

Yup, case hardening is what I mean. Saw something on the web a couple of years ago that is similar to cold blueing but duplicates case hardening. Just a surface finish product.

i just did some reaing up on color case hardening. needless to say i'm out of my league when they start mentioning extreme heat, potassium cynaide baths, charcoal and bone...........but that is for the "real deal"... tried to find a fake chemical appearance method and had no luck other than some feller who applied water to the receiver, then sort of patted that with a light coat of cold blue and then "crumpled towel" patted it dry..........he said it turned out purty fair giving the appearance------but he had no pics. Guess the water in spots sort of applied the gun blueing random like. |

I have searched everywhere on the web and can't find a thing. Probably just confusing something I saw once with something I would like to see. Getting old is tough.

Ya know a lot of those didn't work out to well, like Rugers and I hate to say that as much as I like Rugers. Shortcuts don't work everywhere.
