My wife showed me her LCP had a few rust spots on it, from a carry of 1 day. I normally take her ccw and mine and wipe them down with a silicon cloth once a week, and on the weekends i typically give it a coat of rem oil. Yesterday was our first hot day, and she was carrying iwb. The holster she uses evidently absorbed the sweat, instead of repelling it. The part of the slide that showed the rust has no direct contact with skin (actually 99% of the slide is covered by the holster, and has no skin contact. Once she showed me the rust spots i immediatly cleaned it good with Hoppes #9, and put a coat of rem oil back on it. I cannot see where this rust is coming from, and it has not reappered in 24 hours. I'm currently looking for a new holster for her to carry IWB, but in the meantime, does anybody have any suggestions to keep this from re-occuring? I oil my carry guns with rem oil every weekend, and use a silicon cloth at least once during the week if not more often. Also any suggestions for a new IWB holster would be greatly appreciated as well. She has been using a gunmate, which is a cheapy. |

turtle wax the metal-----seriously----it will help. about the only holster that will not retain moisture is gonna be kydex or what ever plastic equivelent. in the mean time, take the nylon cheapie, oven dry on low heat to remove any moisture, remove, and "scotch guard" it inside and out and let it sit and dry. and apply wax to the gun. Keep checking the gun for rust and take nothing for granted....... |

I noticed the same thing on mine last night. The finish looks to be wearing off. I wonder what it would cost to be hard chromed or something like that. It would hold up a lot better.

I don't think their frames (LCP) are steel, are they? I thought aluminum....if they're steel...that's a plus.... I had a PPK .380 Armoloyed in Fort Worth back in the 70s-you could draw a file across it and not mark it...made the action slicker'n snot.....for a PERMANENT finish, it can't be beat...not cheap but worth checking out..had a Stevens double 12 done, too...paid 130 for one---200 for the other... |

i was thinking if it got much worse i would duracoat hers. I use a pocket holster for my LCP, so far the biggest issue i have is pocket lint.

The LCP has an all steel slide...so any of the coating suggestions would work. I think Dura-Coat would be sharp! |

I don't like Duracoat....yes, it's paint. My BIL had a friend do a couple of his older guns, and it's just plain ugly.....whn my P226 developed rust on the slide in the 90's, I had the slide hard chromed. Could not ask for a better finish, and is extremely durable....expensive, though.....

I have only seen it done once, and it looked good on a turkey gun receiver. I guess I've never seen it on a pistol.

if i do it it'll deffinantly be the combat black color they offer on the website. I think i can do the LCP and an old shotty i have with one bottle of "paint".

Ya might look into powdercoat, too. Durable, inexpensive and tough. Molon Labe Kim |
