I am in the market for a small bedroom size biometric (fingerprint) gun safe to hold one hand gun. The reviews of the GunVault models have not been encouraging and the Barska and LokSAF models apparently have a loud beep when opened that cannot be disabled. The only other brand I have noted is Berman and I could not find any reviews for their safe. Is there anyone here that has personal experience using one that works as advertised (i.e. opens for the correct fingerprint better than 95% of the time while not opening for an incorrect fingerprint) and opens or can be made to open quietly? That latter is not a real deal breaker but the quieter the better. Thanks. |

I have read posters on other forums that had problems with the biometeric locks for the Gunvault and other unspecified safes. Specifically the lock would only read correctly about 25% of the time and the last thing you need when someone breaks into your home and you need your handgun is a tempermental lock. We have no children in our home so I don't lock up my SD firearms. If we have young children coming to visit then everything is unloaded and put in the safe. For your situation I would look at either a finger button lock or just a simple key lock and stay away from the fingerprint recoginition style for now. |

Thank you for your comment. I also have no children in the house on a day to day basis but I just feel more comfortable when it is locked away. The thought that I might not be around when a child happens to visit or just happens to drop in unannounced terrifies me. Nothing is perfect but having the default condition as locked and secured to me is better than the opposite where you have to remember to lock it up for special situations. I have read about the problems with GunVault safes but was hoping some of the other brands were better. Perhaps someone who has one of the other brands will chime in with first hand experience. Thanks again for taking the time to reply and I value your comment. NH is a great state particularly since SB88 passed. |

The rep rep voted in favor of the castle doctrine but sen voted for it before she voted against it. She has to go.

no experience with such safes or vaults.......... something mechanical sounds like a good idea......or a change in routine. |
