Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

Anyone use these? I see that they make 30 round magazines for the Mini's, but I wonder if they are any good. I know there used to be a lot of problems with aftermarket mags for the Mini's. They even make high cap mags for the 6.8 SPC.

That's what I was figuring. I don't know why that would be.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

pro mag in my experience is an act of desperation..........

the mini 14 has always had best service with the factory mags. The factory mags are high dollar but they are the best.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

From what I se, Ruger doesn't offer the 6.8 in a mag bigger than 5 rounds. Ruger's kind of stupid about these things.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

I think more companies will, now that the 6.8 is getting more popular. There is an article on the 6.8 in just about every AR mag out there.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

yeah i have been reading on the net that the 6.8 in the ar platform is being well accepted, but ammo in my neck of the woods is pricey when found. I picked up a box of ssa 90gr tnt's to try out, and i got a couple of boxes of hornady 110gr v-max's.

Let me know how you like the SSA. I've read good things about it, but there isn't any around here. Did you find them local?

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

yeah a local shop had a couple of boxes, they were cheaper than the hornady v-max's but not by much. I have heard rummer that SSA is putting a ammunition plant nearby, hope it's true.

I have heard that the lighter bullets are jammy, but don't know how serious to take the guy. you'd think that if SSA is suppling for military they wouldn't be jammy.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

I haven't heard anything about the lighter bullets being, jammy, but it's possible I suppose. I think the 115 grain bullets are supposed to be the best weight for the round, but I'm not sure. I told you I bought a box of 100 grain Hornady SP's. I think they'll drop coyote, fox or deer just fine. I used 27 grains of 2230 under them. I haven't been able to shoot them yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

lol i bought the same bullet for reloading....i didn't have much of a choice, it was all the guy had. Now i'm just waiting on the post office.

My only concern is the dual primer size. I'm going to have some cases that use the large rifle primer and some that use the small rifle primer.....

FYI, according to the hornady manual, the max is 28.8 of aa2230 gr for the 100gr soft point, which should give you 2500fps.

if you would like more info, send me a pm

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

...from this blog...you might get a Mini-14 30-rounder and maybe change the follower to get a higher-cap factory reliable magazine...the follower was my idea...worth a read....

I'll take any loading info you can give me.

Well if you run out of one size primer you can use the other size. Small rifle primers are scarce around here, because everyone loads 223. Large rifle are more often sitting on the shelf in my local so if I buy brass, it'll probably be Remington.

Re: Promag magazines for the Ruger Mini

...if it weren't for the cost of the ammo...sounds like this one might beat the AK round and be the perfect battle rifle in mid-weight class...still can't beat the M14 for range...but closer than the .223...
