the games that gunners play......

just wondering.........of the local and area ranges, what are the various shooting competitions that are held in your area?

there is only one nra hunter/pistol scheduled match within 100 miles of me.....while there are 3 idpa matches and 3 CAS matches.

one highly sophisicated bench rest 22 LR match where the guys are way too serious for me.

no regular ppc exists anymore,
no 3 gun matches
no idpa

Well, I guess I have an unfair advantage, as I work at a gun range. We do IPSC style shooting on one range, cowboy action on another. The main range is for the general public (330 yards to base of hill up to 550 if you want to climb), and we have another range that many military and police use for qualification purposes. We do CCW courses, as well as hunter education courses. We stay pretty busy catering to all these different shooters. The bad thing, as I am always working, I don't get to do any of it! That is why I shoot at home!

i was wondering about the regional aspects of the various games...

idpa is not popular in my region and wondering if it is more popular in other areas.

same goes for ppc and i swear hunter/pistol is almost dead except perhaps for high population areas. Everyone was nuts for hunter/pistol in the 80's but now??????????same with ppc but ppc is probably a casualty of the trend of auto loaders over revolvers.

There are some CAS withing 100 miles of my home, nothing local at all. Even our local range has been shut down for 'remodeling'. Bummer, I would really like to see something organized that is withing easy travelling distance but doesn't seem to be much interest.

i really want to try some idpa...........but as i said, not popular around these parts.

That USPSA that i tried was too much based on speed and really i thought it was not practical.......especially with all the race guns present.

Heck, it might as well had been a machine gun match as folks were flat out missing the target and getting perpherial hits but still scoring well because of the time factors in the scoring.

i think they should remove "practical" from their name.........
