After seeing Terry P dad's 38 Colt pos police I got to think how I got the one I had . I was in high school and went down to gun shop and got a Jr Colt in 22 short made in Spain . I got he 22 short instead of 25 auto because the ammo was 1/5 cost a box . I traded that gun in later and got the 38 Colt pos police and ammo was still cheaper then the 25 auto . Here is the rub I was 17 still in high school and walk into a Philly gunshop 2 time and came out with a gun in 1959 and I didn't have my parents or anyone else sign for it . And at that time a BB gun was against law to own in Philly city limit by anyone . I can't believe the law were that lacks in 1959 , I'm sure it was a legal because it was a big gunshop .

I bought the only 22 rifle I currently own mail order when I was in high school in the early 60's for $33 all in. It is a Marlin Model 80 which is a bolt action with detachable mags. I put a regular centerfire rifle scope (Redfield 2x7) on it and it is still a shooter. For many years my dad took a real liking to it and when I got it back I traded off the Winchester pump I had because the Marlin would out shoot it. The gun laws were pretty lax back then but I don't remember a single Virginia Tech style shooting ever occuring. Guess we are a lot safer now thanks to the politicans. Right. |

Your parents knew who your friends were and you knew to be home at the time your dad said to be home. You knew to say yes sir and no sir and yes ma'am and no ma'am. Don't see much of that today. |

The 50's, that's when I was born, don't have much of a recollection of the first few years. Gun laws..... I didn't even know what a gun was back then. Interestingly, I might google that here in Oz. |

I went to college in the mid to late 60's and during hunting season I used to bring a shotgun to school and keep it in my dorm. I waterfowl hunted and used to give away my kills to a family I knew the next town over. I also hunted deer but never got one back then but would have brought it home if I had. Try that now and they'd lock down the school and send out text messages to everyone to run and hide in a closet.

I had a six-shooter cap gun, holster, tin badge and hat.

I couldn't afford that high dollar setup when I was a kid but I did have a potmetal cap gun. Mostly I used to make my firearms "Toys" out of wood when I was 5,6,7,8 years old. 1960's |

I learned my first budgeting lessons from cap guns. I used to do a few chores around the house when I was 6 or 7 and for that I got a dollar a week. Every week my mother would go to Woolworths in the next town over and I would look at the cap guns. They were all $1.98 so it took 2 weeks to get one and another week to buy caps. UGHH, it was like a million years then.

In the 50's I was too young for real weapons so I stuck to my cap guns. | |
