What are your pet "gun myth" peeves?

The old wives tales and the "everybody knows, I heards it at the gun counter" myths about guns them selves NOT GUN CONTROL or or such, just the things that gun owners mistakenly repeat, and NO, not which gun/caliber/action/brand is best either.

I will start with one

1. Myth: "The .40 S&W is a higher pressure round than the 9mm"
Fact: Same SAAMI specs for both.

Can't even begin to tell you how many times I've heard and debunked this one over the years .

Myth: Ruger MK Series rimfire pistols will be damaged if they're dryfired

Fact: MK Series pistols have a firing pin stop that prevents the firing pin from striking and damaging the surface of the chamber.

As long as "peeves" are part of it.

Something new is " an answer to a question not asked".

I don't really know any by real gun owners but, I know this.

1. Silencers make gunfire almost inaudible.
A. They may drop the noise level from 140-160 decibels down to 120 or 130 but for wanna hitmen, someones probably still going to hear it.

2. Bullet Proof Vest's will stop a rifle bullet.
A. Negative Ghost Rider, most on the market that police use, will only slow most handgun rounds down enough to be effective. The ones that the military have for that are way more expensive around 30,000 and heavy 33Lbs. Even they are not rated to be effective for an AK round closer than 14 or 15 meters.

3. Things shot with a bullet will explode.
A. obviously this is rediculous, unless someone has actually intended that effect and placed an explosive charge.

Ahhh Hollywood, Where Automatic Machine Guns have a never ending exhaustable supply of bullets in them from their internal ammunition factories.Where the hero Cocks his slide or pumps his shotgun in the middle of a firefight even though he didn't need a reload which would just upset us everyday normal people because we just expended a perfectly good round onto the ground.
The Media, No wonder there are so many ridiculous gun myths.

and, That's Gunny's 2 cents worth

You're right Gunny, the media or the movies..... yep, that is where the more ridiculous myths usually start.

When I show a friend a .25ACP and they reply "whats that gonna do, piss em off?"

I always reply with; "its all about placement my friend"

Plastic is junk (regarding the 10/22 polymer parts) yet the same folks LOVE their Glocks, HK's and XD's.

The best to me: "I know it's not me, must be the gun."

Maybe we just "love junk" In a persons lifetime I think they will last just as long but in the long run no. I have a US Army Model of 1911 made in 1917 and it still functions as new. When my XD is nearly a 100 years old I wonder if the same can be said about it.

Polymer is polymer and it doesn't matter what its on.
