S&W is bringing back the 586 and being offered in both six- and seven-shot models. It unfortunately has the stupid lock, but it has wood stocks and its a nice looking piece anyways! I already have a 586 no dash but I might get the 3" 7-shot L-Comp model with a Front Ramp Tritium Dot Night Sight. ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.guns.com/restoring-the-cr...model-586.html Last edited by mesinge2; 02-14-2012 at 04:15 PM. |

That lock can be remove from gun forever by removing 2 parts and can be put back in gun if you decide you want the lock to work again . Here is the direction to do it . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVPYgohVCNM |

Here is a pic of my 686 I sold with the reason for selling it . I've been shooting SA so long that DA gun feel ackward to shoot . The retread on the 686 has a exposed medal on back strap making DA shooting easy for a person with small hand to reach the trigger .. |

Went out shopping Sat. and really did not expect to see one; but, as good as the S&W look and are, I am now toying with getting a GP 100 with a 4" barrel. I handled one plus one with a 3" barrel. The 4" was comfortable in the hand, the 3" seemed light toward the barrel, just not right for me. I have shot a 4" Highway patrolman and loved it, so maybe a N frame would be better. I also found a Service Six in .38 spl that was barrel pitted a fair amount, so I passed. |

I pass on any used firearm with any rust. I figure neglect can transulate to many things. I have a 4' GP100 and it is my nightstand piece. The out of the box trigger was excellent and it is a shooter. It is built to last multiple generations.

Ya can't go wrong with a sturdy ruger revolver but I do like the older Smith 19's and 586's if for no other reason than that smooth action, funny thing is that I remember when the 586 first came out, folks complained that it wasn't as smooth as the "old" Smiths, nowadays, they are the "old" smiths with the smooth action, go figure. I have a hard time warming up to the smiths with the "hillary hole", if I want my revolver locked up I'll put it in the safe but that's just me. | |

Since I have the 4" no dash, I might buy the 6" for range use.
