That sounds like a prize, Sir. Six months? By the time you get it it the dollars may be worth a lot less and the rifle worth a lot more. Good deal!

Congrats, you just keep finding the good stuff Snuff. Someday I hope to stumble on a 44-40 I can afford. Speaking of pawn shops, the ones around here are getting stupid, it's cheaper to go to Cabellas.

I know I am weak, I took it to the range today it's a little out of time but functions well its will feed but it can be better. Since I am going to change the rear sight and have a short stroke kit put in it no need to pay twice for getting it timed right. The man that I normally get my leather from to put on the rifles has been out of his shop for a week. I went by the cobblers's place he had a big piece of honest to sam buffalo hide and sold it to me for 5 bucks. What a deal its strong yet soft also. Its dark brown, so after I clean my guns up tonite I get to put some more hide on my rifle. Man this Cowboy Action Shooting had really turned out to be some hobbie I do most of the work myself and I am learnig all the time. I know already get a life Snuffy lol. I got one and I am loving more each day and week. I sure glad that ya'll can read my posts I think most of the time I have all the goof's out of them nope find more all the time. lol |

You are pursuing your passion and sharing what you learn and what you enjoy with others. Life doesn't get much better than that, Sir.

The 73 out of the boxs has much better sights. On the 73 ya can put any of the Marbles buck horn sights on them. Less than 20 buck's from Brownell's. For about the same money ya can put a folds down Marles rear sight on the 66. The front sight on the 73 can be changed easier, where as on the 66 the barrel band is where your front sight is at. So that would mean a major amount of money to put a different front sight on the 66, say around $125.00 depending on where ya take it. So I would say yes there is alot of advanages in having the 73 over the 66 right out of the box. Most shooters like the 19 to 20 barrels on their rifles. If you shoot a long barrel like mine which is 24 inch's I have to make sure I don't bang on the door ways or window frame less I drop my rifle which is a match DQ. But when I come to a stage that has a longer bonus shot those extra five inchs's of barrel sure come in handy. How I ended up with a 24 inchs barrel is that it was there at thte right price. I never end took it out to test fire it at all I just showed up at the state match and shot it it never did fail. The chap a crap rifle. I had at the time knew nothing but failure. The 73 even with the 24 inch barrel has never failed to feed or fire providing I did my job right. Its done my proud since I had it. There are folks that have short stroke kits that can out shoot me there are those that don't than can out shoot me. There are folks with Marlins that can oput shoot me, there are folks with 92's that can out shoot me. There those that shoot 97 SXS hamer less and Lever shotguns that can out shoot me. And then there are those that no matter what they have they can't out shoot me. What all boil's down to is just how much time and effort your going to put into being better at beating the clock. You compete against your self period. Its really what you want to put into the game and how far you want to go in the game. The person that got me started doesn't want to be an Range Officer feels he has too much on his plate. I have since found out that he is bearly hanging on to his speed I guess age is getting to him. But he is also the one that drops down in class to place better, and on the other hand meaned mouth someone for shooting a class where there was little compatition. Yes there are gamers only a fool would think there wasn't any at these matchs. I have my own style of shooting its a little from this and that but never do I follow anyone else 100% of the time. I shoot classic cowboy because I like to shoot classic cowboy, its not the easiest class to shoot as a matter of fact its one of the hardest to compete in if ya want to place well in a main match. I shoot duelest in tyhe summer time and when I know that club isn't too big on picking up a persons brass. But its also hell for stout in the compatiton, I don't care that is what I like to shoot and its how I like to shoot and so I shoot those classes. I had an english teacher once by the name of Mr. Eddlin he use to tell us there 3 types of people in this world. readers thinkers and doer's. Reader's are those with 10 milllon question and fact searchers and will read everything there is on a subject. They will in fact re-search a subject to death, they will know more about the subject at hand than the subject its self. Yet haven't a clue as to how to operate a simple door knob. Then there is the thinkers they think they are going to do this that and anything else there is to think about its all they do is think about this and that. They sit there with a turd hanging from the A hole thinking about everything but what they are going to do next. They have the TP in their hand they are just not sure as to when they are going to do this dead. Then there are the doer's they re-search some read some think some but they do get out there and get their hands wet or dirty. They have the idea in their mind if they can do alot then I can do a little. I like to think of myself as a doer and not a reader nor a thinker either. Each person has to find out for them selves as to what they are and what they are going to do to make thing run right in their life. |

Wish we had shoots around here.Even if just to go and observe some knowledge on the sport.I'm a do it guy myself,I have a buddy who will believe anything he reads. But they sometimes only type what they want you to think not what is.He tried to pull the know it all crap about selling on line.I have over 650 points on ebay and 70 some on G/Broker and he thinks he knows more then me.I try to explained that you got to get your hands into something to know anything. And he still believes everything he reads as Gospel. He was telling me yesterday about SKS and I said wait a minute Ive bought and sold more of them then you ever laid a hand on and it seems he never even shot one. I wanted to tell him to go pound salt.If you haven't done it you know nothing in my book.Dint try and tell me anything unless you have hands on experience.Take all your books and resource and shove it up your a$$ i told him. This is a mans world not a book worms. We bump heads all the time, but Ive given away more guns then he owns so hes blowing in the wind in my BOOK. He had a 410 pump with a stuck trigger plunger and i was soaking it in wd 40 when he grabbed a big screwdriver to pry it.I said don't pry on it you will brake it.But he knew better, now we have been looking for a new trigger frame for a year now he cracked the pot metal housing in half. Then tried to talk his way out of the blame.I learned everything i know by getting in and doing it.Or listening to someone who has,not from stuff people wrote in books.Witch is OK if they know what there writing about. But how can you tell it mite be a ahole writing for the factory that dint want you to know the Truth about it! |

...depending on the pawn shop...I've bought 8 from three different pawnshops in 2 years and got sweetheart deals on all...bought two for my big son....Ruger's put me into the used only market...gotta keep my nose to the ground to find what I want...only one small hitch with a Revelation 20 ga. pump in all of those...common to the model...I'm happy...when I go to a small town...pawn shop's my first stop!!! OK...so I lied...AFTER the bathroom at McDonalds.... |

I have room to file the metal that supports the back of the movable sight without touching the sight its self. And I can always take that out of the sight housing and make the sight housing the sight. The target are close and I don't shoot these rifles long range any ways. |
