...I survive in the used market...Henrys usually sell around $200 under MSRP new, though.....I'd like their .44, .357, 30-30...and a coupla .22s...they are good people and the quality is great...Marlin...has been spotty the last few years...maybe Remington will fix that....Winchesters here are about 300 over what they're worth...just 'cause they've stopped making them...except for the ones that cost thousands for collection.....the one I'd love to see made again is the Marlin Mountie .22 levergun....

Very interesting article Sheepdog. I have both a Marlin and Win in 30-30 and I agree with the conclusion that the Model 94 is the best handling. Also, at least to me, tradition is a big part of the lure of the 30-30 and the Winchester 94 takes that catagory hands down. On the other hand the Marlin 336 is a much easier action to tear down, work on and the put back together. Also the solid reciever top protects the guts from everything from dust and falling leaves to rain and falling snowflakes. I'm with you, the used market is the only way to go. There is no need whatsoever to buy a 30-30 new, but it's still a chore finding a Winchester in my area for less than 350, but they are out there. The only Henry I own is a H001 and it is nothing but impressive. Have had 2 Marlin Mounties in the last year but sold both. They bring a lot and it's hard to pass an opportunity to double your money. |

Remember the 92 is the correct action for short cartridge like 44-40 and the 94 is a long 92 action and was designed for the 30-30 length . The 92 action are 2 inches shorter then the Henry , 66 and 73 action and are over twice as strong . The 66 and 73 action will slick up the best of any lever gun EVER made . |
