Re: Got my Rossi today

Thanks. I'm looking forward to shooting it but it may be a while. We are in the middle of painting the garage floor and I don't want to set up the reloading stuff until we're done. Probably after Thanksgiving unless I get too impatient. I'm kind of in the middle of sorting out what i am going to carry anyway.

Mine is a joy to shoot, and is sleeps right next to me at night. I am sure that yours will feel great in your hands too.

Re: Got my Rossi today

It handles nicely and the trigger is crisp but not too light. It amazes me how sleek and compact the 92 action is.

Very nice Mac, I know you will like it. Steve Young is a good man, he helped me out with my 92 in 480 when I was doing the action work, had him weld up the safety hole so I could put a receiver sight on it, and yes it is a sleek action.

Nice! Looks like you had that accursed safety took off too. I HATE those things on the Rossi. Uglier than a $3 hooker.

That's a nice little rifle, Mac. It's the first one I've ever seen with a red dot though. I'm curious as to why you chose a red dot. Burris makes some very good ones.

I wanted to go with a rear mounted aperture sight. He mounts a neat Ashley ghost ring just ahead of the hammer that is sleek and looks great but in trying a Mini 14 and an M-1 carbine I could not see such sights. I wear trifocals and I find I just can't get the right part of the lens into position to use a peep site. I wanted something fast on this and I preferred to avoid a scope so I went with this. It is the first time I've used one.

i like red dots....unlimited eye relief, brightness controls, minimal bulk/weight......when i had an ar, i used a bushnell holo sight co-witnessed with the irons.........

so is your world going to "go round" and you are going to give them bottom feeders some rest?

the dual cartridge concept..........gotta love it!!!!!!!!

Of course i think the "perfect" companion for this would be a 3" smith model 66.........

that's the problem with guns, the're like lay's tater chips........you just can't stop!!!

Actually I've carried a revolver for more than ten years. I am trying to switch to a .40 S&W auto. I don't think the PPS is going to get it so I think I will try a Kahr. I will look at a K-40 and MK-40 today or tomorrow. I put my Sig 9mm and a couple of revolvers on consignment this week. I may add one or two more.

I would like to find a 4" Mod 66. I looked at one yesterday but it was too beat up. I have a 2 1/2" Mod 19 and a 3" Mod 65. They would make decent companions to the carbine.

Re: Got my Rossi today

...especially that M65......say, how quick is that red dot to get on target??? how hard to "sight in" and make sure it's straight? What brand and how do you mount it? How expensive are they? Seems it'd be good for carbine or shotgun...can it stand the recoil??? The last red dot I had was 72... B-somethingorother...looked like a plexiglass front cap with the red dot centered in it in a short tube...I think it used ambient light...they weren't expensive then...had it on a Winch 1200...

Re: Got my Rossi today

This unit is a Burris. It runs about $250.00 but there are much cheaper ones out there. This is a reflex type so no tube. It is meant for mounting on a handgun's slide so I don't expect recoil to be an issue. It is not as sturdy as some but as you can see it is very small and effectively weightless. It is very fast as there is nothing to align, you put the dot on the target and you are there. This is why they are seen mounted on shotguns. It has adjustment screws for windage and elevation and comes with a tool to adjust it. He cut a new dovetail for it so if I want to remount a conventional sight I can. If I did not like it on this I would mount it on my .22 rifle, but this looks like it will work well. If I do change it I would probably have a long eye relief pistol scope mounted there.

On the Mod 65 I agree. I also have the GP-100 6' if I want something heavy that can use the rifle ammo. The 4" Mod 66 would be a nice compromise, easy to carry and fast into action, but able to work at medium ranges.
