Re: One thing I've not seen here...

if you don't handload and only shoot factory jacketed bullets then marlins are fine.
if your a handloader and cast your own bullets marlins can be a real PITA to get them to shoot cast with micro-groove barrels.thats one the main reasons the newer marlins have went to "ballard" rifling.the 30/30's and 35 rem barrels still use MG barrels. .

The target on the right is a MG barrel , they will shoot cast bullets if you get the combination correct .

Re: One thing I've not seen here...

now tell the people the alloy used and how fat you had to size the bullets to get that marlin to shoot cast .marlins where the data is stamped on the barrel have tight spots in the bore.
to get mine to shoot cast I had to fire lap the bore and run a .312 bullet with a alloy with a bhn of 22.most marlin shooters are not going to go thru that much chit to get a marlin to shoot well.
next time you head to the range let me know I want to see you shoot cast out of that 30/30 rifle.

Re: One thing I've not seen here...

My alloy was wheel weight , nothing added . They cast .309 and I installed gas checks and ran them threw a .309 lube size . The brass was 375 win run threw a 30-30 die and then fire formed and necked turned to give only .003 clearances at the neck . IMR 3031 near max charge was used . If you want to shoot the gun I sold it John Carter in Az in around 1995 , but I have a 32-20 Marlin MG that loves cast bullets . I've never put it on paper , but it rings 12"x 12" steel target out to 100 yds everytime .

Re: One thing I've not seen here...

I have 1894 Marlin 32-20 and Rossi 44-40 [copy of a 92 ] now and the Rossi is my favorite of all the lever guns I have owned in the last 40 + year of shooting them . The last 13 + yrs of cowboy action shooting and way over 15,000 rounds threw it . It has NEVER jammed or misfired I can remember . I got my 1st deer in Tn with it . I've never shot a real Henry and the ones I seen were over $10,000 plus gun and they never shoot them

I've never even laid eyes on a true Henry, but I do like those little Rossi lever guns.
