Ruger LC9 Range Report

Well I got out to the the area I shoot at, owned by Uncle.

Anyway here is my B27 target set up:

My first 8 rounds were a bit low, and then the next 7 were a bit not to my liking. I discovered that I need my glasses on... ah there now, I can see my sights clearly, and the target is a bit fuzzy. But the more I shot, the better it seemed my group got on this target.

I wish I could say something bad about the LC9, but can't. It is narrower than the Glock 26/27, so it took some getting used to. But for carry in your pocket, belly band, or side holster, this little LC9 just blends in and is so easy on carry.

Trigger pull is a bit stiff at first, but seemed to get smoother as more rounds were fired. I only had about 80 rounds to shoot, I wish I had more on hand but didn't. I practice at a reasonable distance of 7 to 15 yards is all, and I'm happy with that.

I would recomend the LC9 to anyone that wants a good quality conceal carry pistol, as there is no complaints here.

Re: Ruger LC9 Range Report

Thank you! It's an interesting pistol but these things need to be shot and tested by trusted folks to know how good they are. So far I think I have only heard good things about it for it's intended roll. I hope you will continue to share as you put more ammo through it.

Machinist I will do that, and your welcome.

Re: Ruger LC9 Range Report

Once you get used to the trigger it probably isn't so bad. I got better with the LCP I had too. I think for what it is intended for, it'll work well. Thanks for the report and pic!

Re: Ruger LC9 Range Report

question.............since i have not handled one.......is the trigger heavy and long enough for the weapon to be pocket carried without the safety engaged?

recoil...........what was your impressions?

Re: Ruger LC9 Range Report

I don't believe it has a safety on it. The trigger on the one I played with at the local was a very long pull like the LCP. It should be as safe as a revolver. I carried the LCP with one in the chamber, no safety, for 2 years.

It dos have a safety, the trigger is long but I do carry with the safety on, thumb swipes it off on the way out of the pocket. I think one would be safe caring with it off.

Re: Ruger LC9 Range Report

The safety ie slide lock, is just that and an option for those that do not want to fumble with it. The trigger is long, and to me felt very smooth and is long enough not to worry about an AD in your pocket. I can carry this several ways, as I have a belt slide that works real well, belly band or can use the pocket carry method should I desire.

Recoil was very much like a Glock 26, as it has 2 guide rod springs which really helps with recoil. This is not a bad little pistol, and real keeper for me. I pocket carried while at work today, and really did not even notice it that much. No one else noticed it either, which is what we seek in carrying this way.

I also ordered another magazine while at the shop today, which is the only down fall I see with Ruger at least not providing a second magazine. But I figure its all good, and I will be picking up several more boxes of ammo real soon. The more trigger time I get, the better that group is going to get, as I want to keep them all in the lightly colored center zone of the target making a hole you can push a golf ball through.

This is a win win, and Deputy, this would be a great BUG for you on duty as well.

Here are some pics from another forum board comparing the LC9 to a couple of other small 9mm pistols.

Re: Ruger LC9 Range Report

I didn't even notice the safety on the LC9. Or if I did at the time, I'd forgotten. I wouldn't bother using it. I may get one of these down the road.

Yep, that is Montana for sure.... with the mountain range in the background. I could have kept walking and not hit a fenceline, and probably encountered a few griz along the way. Where I was, I could have as well

All I need to do, is take someone along that runs a heck of a lot slower than me

Truth be told, I bowhunted in griz country all last bow season, and only carried a bowie and my bear spray. Neither was required for use
