10/22 @ the range today

I took my old 10/22 to the range today. It was cold and windy but I managed to get a few rounds off before my fingers froze. This target has 10 rounds in it. I was dead on the first shot and then they started to climb. Each shot was a little higher then the last. I should have stopped at four rounds and had all 10's. Twice I had two rounds touching and both times they were right after the other one.

Not good shooting but concidering I'm using the cheapest ammo I could find with a 46 year old plinker and a scope that is of the same vintage I think I did okay.

My father-in-law bought the 1966 Carbine new in 66 so its been in the family for a long time. When he passed on I received it because no one else saw its value. In time I will pass it on to his granddaughters.

Isn't that true of all our firearms, we are just looking after them for the next generation.
Nive shooting BTW.

Good shooting on a windy day. I love the 1966, it's my age.

I think that is most true of my WWI and WWII weapons. I've paid attention to detail and make them as period as I can. Sometimes it hard to get the correct screws and sights. I have an M1 that needs an earlier op-rod and gas screw. It was made in 1939.

It wasn't so windy that it effected the impact of the bullet but it sure chilled me down. It was right at freezing with 10-15 mph winds.

Its snowing now. During half-time of the Saints -49er game I took the Red Ryder out to the back yard and shot a few beer cans. I was surprised it could penitrate the cans. Most bounced off but a few made it inside to rattle around.

Sometimes I just open the window and shoot from inside the house.

Its snowing right now and not worth the drive to the range so I can still open the window and shoot but still not miss the playoff game on TV.
