Dual Range Report, One Maiden Voyage.

Today I sighted in my new Ruger 1A in .270 Win.
It was not the best of days weather wise but I was not going to wait any longer, I have had this rifle for about a month.
Intermittent showers, 100% humidity, wind +5 knots and gusting, temperature around 28 degrees C.
Bore sighted, then sighted the scope in (Leupold VX-3L 3.5-10X50 CDS). The guy at the LGS had done an excellent job mounting the scope, it was pretty much spot on.
The wind played havoc but still managed a 1" group at 100 metres (3 shots).
Wasn't going to do the "shoot, clean, shoot, clean" thing but I did for the first five shots. It wasn't so much of an inconvenience, I had the time.
Ammo was Remington (Express Core-Lokt) factory 130gr.
Shot eight rounds in total.
All in all very pleased with the rifle. I will go back another time when it is less windy and check it again. I will get some pics then. This will turnout to be a very accurate rifle.

Also shot my CZ452 to check it. Ten rounds at 25 metres equalled a small 1/4 inch jagged hole. Ammo was 40gr CCI. Scope is a 6x Weaver. Very accurate rifle also. Pics next time when time allows.

Great report but you kinda lost me at " 28 degrees C." . what would that be in the real world?

28 C = 82.4 F.
We are in the middle of summer here and it was a cooler day.

This always helped me out

"0" celsius is where water freezes
,
"100" celsius is where water boils

"20" celsius is 68 degrees

"40" celsius is 104 degrees

Would that be a 6.5 cm hole?

Great first trip out with factory ammo shooting to an 25.4mm group. I love the 270 cartridge for hunting and it is capable of super accuracy. Congrats and good luck.

Thanks Terry.
When I start reloading I expect the groupings to improve.
It was an absolutely great gun to shoot, loved it.

Interesting that you mix Metric and Kings Measurements James. Is that common for Metric countries?

No, never mixed. I grew up with lbs & ounces, pounds & shillings, feet & inches ect.
It all converted to metric in 1966. I have a good working knowledge of the both and able to do computations very easily.
That was for your benefit 303.

I've never owned a .270
I was thinking of getting one of the new Ruger American's in .270.
Wasn't sure of which caliber I wanted but; hearing you fella's talk, Lean's me towards that caliber.

My pet 270 Win load is 56.0 gr of H4831 under a Sierra 130 gr BT and a Federal LR primer. I easily get 3/4" @ 100 yards with it which for me is great for hunting.
