Might make a good slug gun soon as I get some sights on it. Next the Savage 22mag, I had changes scopes since last time out and needed to get back on zero again . 10 rounds put it on a nickle size group at 25yards, good enough for groundhogs. Next got out the stainless Single Six and run 75 rds of Federal Bulk in it. A real fun gun but slow on reloading as all single actions are (accept in .movies.) Last but now least the SP101 . Ran 40 rds of mixed up 148 gr WC,125 gr SWC and and 10 rds of WW 125gr 38sp +p loads. All shot low accept the +P loads This gun is made for 158 grain bullets. They do work better for me anyway. Fun morning when you have the range to your self. One other member was setting up on the rifle range as we left. The new pistol section ,set up last year has a dirt berm between it and rifle section. much safer changing targets, etc. |

Sounds like fun! This the first time out with the Sp101? What Savage do you have? I just picked up a 22mag rifle from them. |

Yup, going to the range, or wherever you can safely shoot, is always relaxing....

...a good day...question...I've heard that the SP was iron-sighted for heavy slugs, too...why not for the 125-grainers...won't they work/smack/expand better than the 158s out of a 2 or 3 inch tube???

I think it's because most shelf ammo is 158 grain. That way your gun will shoot to POA at 25 yards.

...that used to be the case...now, shelf ammo is whatever the wholesaler had any left of..are primers any easier to find than a few months back?

a great time............always wondered why it seems every gun company sights in their fixed sight 38's and 357's for the 158 gr loads.........fine by me but i can see it get aggravating for some who like lighter loads. would also not take much for ruger to dove-tail a front sight or rear sight on the sp's.........that would be an attractive feature for windage problems. I need to get back to the range with something different than the duty guns...........its been too long.............. |
