I made the mistake of taking all truncated style FMJ bullets. I knew better, but sometimes I just don't listen to me. I put 52 rounds thru it and it jammed about 7 or 8 times. I'm going to take some ball ammo and some LRN this wekend and try it again. I think my last Springfields spoiled me. They ate everything. The Mil-Spec I just worked on chewed up and spit out 50 rounds last week without a hitch. Hopefully this one will get better. If it doesn't I'll send it back and have them fix it. It was pretty damn accurate at 8 paces though. Those little sights work just fine. |

I have never had any luck with truncated style bullets. I'm sure FMJ and Lead RN will work much better.

I think so too, Tim. The truncated bullets shoot fine out of my Mil-Spec.

Did you try different magazines? Mine was kinda finiky when I first got it, 'til it was good and broken in. Molon Labe Kim |

I think that is particularly true with bare stainless autos.

When you say "jammed" did it just fail to go into battery or did it stovepipe or did the nose jam on something?

It failed to go into battery, Mac. Kim, I used SA, Colt and one other brand. The only mag that ran 100% was the stainless one that came with the gun. Another weird thing is that some of the grips that fit my Park'd GI don't fit my stainless. |

See if you can get some Shooting Star mags by Chip McCormick. Mine have functioned flawlessly, with the exception of the one that blew out the bottom, but that was after thousands of rounds. Molon Labe Kim |

My other 2 Springers have loved the SA and the Colt mags. I have another brand that I can't think of right now, and those have worked flawlessly as well. I really think that the gun needs a few hundred rounds thru it. The slide is tight too. It should loosen up a bit and then I can be sure. If it still jams, I'll send it back. They have a reputation for sending guns back that are way better than the one you sent in. |

Stainless tends to be rougher and this bleeds off energy from the recoil spring that is needed to chamber the round. This is where the long guide helped the shorter guns to function but I think it is less important with full length guns unless target loads are used. More breakin rounds may help. Use good lube on the rails to prevent galling. That will make everything worse.

I sprayed it up good after I cleaned it tonight. I'll make sure it's lubed good before I take it out this weekend.

You have the right attitude. The gun will be fine. Worst case you send it back and they fix it. If you do that you might consider having them do the sight work. Might be cheaper and save you some shipping. I'm sure you will end up happy.

Yeah, I think things will turn out fine either way. If they get it back, it'll be better than new when I get it back, and if they don't, I'm still pretty happy.

You have been carrying the full sized Springfields long enough to know you like them so you just need to get this rustless version up to the where the others are.

I'm goingto give it a quick once over before I go out again, Snuffy. I figure it can't hurt. |

If you have a demal tool you can use tooth paste that really works great, sure will slick up and action fast. That way you don't have to worry about over doing it. Actually you can pack the slide in tooth paste work the day lites out of it then clean it up I use hot water my self then dry it oil and your way a head of the game. |
