Got some trigger time

Tried to post this last night, but musthave been too tired and not pushed submit.
Had a nice day off, capped with a range trip. Took out my GP100, my 357 carbine, and my Nylon 66.

I was with two buddies. One was a novice who was an eager student. The other was a LEO firearms trainer who was an excellent instructor. I worked on changing my grip on the GP, and on practicing my reloading cycle.

I also got to shoot my first 1911, three Smiths (357, 44 mag, and 45 colt), and a nice tricked out Remington 870.

Nice day was finished off with a good meal and cigar with friends while overlooking a nice valley behind my friend's house.

Happy preacher man.

I had gotten in to a bad habit of supporting my shooting hand from underneath, instead of wrapping from the front. I did not used to do that and do not remember starting to do that. Just happened from lack of practice I guess.

Re: Got some trigger time

Sounds like a great time. How did you like the 1911? I know you're a revolver guy, and I'm wondering what you think of the king of the hand guns.

Re: Got some trigger time

No one can shoot a 1911 and not be forever changed and left with a bad case of the hot runnin' wants.

Glad you had a good day. Soon as it cools off here, I'll be havin' some of those too.

Re: Got some trigger time

I enjoyed the 1911. I enjoyed the historical significance of it, just like I enjoy shooting a 30-06. It did feel good in my hand, and I shot it well enough for the first time. However, I started out with semi-autos and then got the revolver bug. I would not say that I feel the absolute need to own a 1911, but I would buy one before many other semis. If anything, the whole day sort of cemented my love of wheels and levers.

Re: Got some trigger time

...most of my shooting is one hand shooting...when I use two hands I simply cup the right hand and lay the left hand in it like a cup in a saucer...never use any right-hand pressure on the left hand...just a bit of weight support...whatever works well for you...isn't necessarily wrong...just different...you shot today three of the finest of their class...your GP, the .357 levergun, and the Nylon 66---yours black and chrome or brown and blued?

Mine is brown and blue, like this one. This is not mine, but is its identical twin. Truly a fun, light gun.

Re: Got some trigger time

...+1, kim...felt that way the first time I racked a slide...I was 20 and the gun was a true 1911...I paid $29 for it and replaced a mag release button for .50....loved 'em ever since...handled H's yesterday and hated to put it back...

...Cruelshoes, yours was called the Mohawk...they were innovative and took some studyin'...but shot like Swiss watches...mine was the Apache...wish I'd not gotten rid of it...saw a clean Mohawk last year for around $180...

Re: Got some trigger time

...if I knew I was going into combat...the 1911'd be the ONE to take...simpler and stronger than any, in my opinion...I'd take it over the Sig 220...full-sized Govt Model...stainless...

Re: Got some trigger time

I'll meet my maker with my 1911 on my hip or in my hand. It's not a gun free zone there.

Kim, I'm getting itchy to see the mods and want pics. You should have sent it to me. Would have been quicker.
