Fowling shots

When I first started shooting cowboy matchs I noticed that alot of the top shooters got there early. And shot one full load in each of there guns, so I started doing that. I noticed my scores start to improve. Of course my Dad and Brother-in-Laws would always shoot their guns before deer season. And I have noticed that when I go to the range to shoot one of my long range scoped rifles that the first shot out a clean barrel is off just a bit once the barrel is fowled they hit one the mark.

Re: Fowling shots

Warming up with some practice rounds helps a lot of folks compared as to "shooting cold"

.......just reminding the body of the feel of the trigger, recoil, hand/eye coordination, and reflex.

plus its a good time to check the equipment for "uh-oh's" .......ole' man murphy might had paid us a visit the nite before....

Re: Fowling shots

It is nomal to shoot one or two fowler out of a clean gun to get it to settle down to shoot a normal group . It's a must in muzzle loader and cast bullet shooters . My benchrest jacket shooter I have special ammo loaded just for fowling the barrel after cleaning .

Re: Fowling shots

Good point Deputy, TGR I am not a bench rest shooter but I have heard them talk about warm up ammo. Only shot black powder once years ago on Fort Hood one shot from a revoler and one shot from a brech loader. It was ok, didn't stur me to goes get one lol
