TGR - 357 Max

Which one do you like better in the maxie, H4227 or H110?
My favorite load is 23gr H110 with the 160gr Speer JSP, but never tried the H4227. I am going to look for some at the next gun show to use in the 30 carbine Blackhawk reloads.

In 357 MAX the best powder for speed and accuracy is AA1680 and IMR4227 is second to it . Hornardy 180 HP is the choice hunter and target shooter alike . IMR4227 is a super powder for cast bullets and like Unique it will loads a ton of of different cal's and do a good job on everything you put it in . I use Unique up to 1000 fps and IMR4227 from 1000 to 2000 fps and IMR3031 over 2000 fps . These 3 powder will load everything you own for hunting , plucking or target shooting .

IMR 4227 works great and clean burning too.

Thanks for the tips TGR, I'll get me some of that IMR 4227. What's the difference with that and the H4227?

I always liked the 160gr Speer JSP, they did well in both mag and max. They are getting hard to find now that Speer isn't making them anymore. Guess I'll have to get some 180's and start over again.

Here is my stock maxie--I have a 10" bbl that I may put on it to take it back to original configuration. Past owner made it a 7.5". Haven't made up my mind yet.

And what my Martini does with iron sights with the H110 load a few years back when my eyes were much better.

I haven't used much Hodgen powers myself so I can't say. Nice looking Blackhawk, and nice group too.

Some fine looking S/A revolvers in this thread. I would imagine the max would be a decent hunting caliber for deer sized game.

Jimbo ........... nice gun . I changed the grip frame on mine because the square trigger guard torn up my fingers . I got mine for deer and pig hunting that I can't do that anymore .

There is very little gain in fps between the 2 barrel length . I like the balance of the 10 1/2 but the front sight with ramp is super hard for me to get a good sight picture . For hunting the 7 1/2 works better for me . If you change barrels keep the air gap .003 or less , Ruger early models where around .006 and late models were under .004 . Mine is .002 from the factory .

IMR4227 is used by cast bullet target shoots with plain base bullet , because of low flame . H4227 has same pressure , but higher flame I've been told . If you shoot gas check or jacket bullet I don't see a differents .

no reloading stuff at the gunshow this weekend. I guess it won't make a difference then if I find H or IMR so which ever I see first gets the nod. I will probably use it for 30carbine and 270Win.
The only reason for putting a 10" bbl on it is because I have one and that's the way it was born. I've never shot a 10er so not sure if I will really like it. The 7.5" is fun to shoot as is.
