I have a 7/8 bar that came with the press but have decided to go with the 1 oz loads. Main reason is that I have 250 wads for the 1 oz loads. While it would be cheaper to just order the 7/8 oz wadds and save the 1 oz wads for later use. My question is can there be that much of a gain with the 1 oz loads over the the 7/8 oz loads? My uses for the 20 are mainly for bird huntting and some clay bird shooting. |

...found this informative...may or may not help you... http://www.megcha.com/ChadBuckendahl/Re ... endahl.pdf ...as far as the results of more shot...I always hunted with Hi-brass (3 3/4-1 1/4) loads...what they call Long Range Express... now I needed the denser pattern...the less shot, the more precise your shot has to be...you do get more range outa a heavier load...if it's pushed by more powder...so on doves you'd get a longer shot=more time to make the shot...........on quail, we'd have some of us using 7 1/2...some of us #9...but all used the Remington Express loads for a longer shot....before they got out of range...light loads just don't appeal to me except snake/rat control... |

I only need around another 60 bucks to get set up like I want to be. So I will beat his chart as far as breaking even. Anyhow I really like the page you sent me, great for people thinking about getting into reloading. I use the bigger heavier shot for the same reason takes less to knock them down, and as you said more time to take your shot. |

here is a chart on various shot size vs pellet count size #5 shot you have 150 pellts at 7/8oz 172 pellets at 1 oz I guess it depends on your wads/gun and any holes in your pattern that need filling. ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/shotgun- ... -chart.php |

...my patterns usually have holes in them...pattern-sized holes...I'm too slow to be a quail hunter...on a covey rise, they were all at Mickey D's pickin' up their orders before I got my gun up...on singles, it was more like "what's HE pointin' at?"

Sheepdog, I really doubt any of us would come back with any birds if we hunted with you pal we would be too busy laughing at you and the stunts you pull. Anyhow Thanks for all the help men. |
