Lee's new priming tool

SUCKS! My old auto prime, after 10s of thousands of primers seated, the handle broke the other day. Oh well, thought I would order a new one. Seems they have replaced it with a "new and improved" model that sucks big time. Got it today, and to say I hate it is an understatement. Gonna send it back to Midway, and hope they still have an old auto prime in stock. It has two levels. The first level is supposed to put the primer in place so you can seat it in the next step. Well, it may work in theory, but it took me 10 minutes to prime 5 rounds. The only good thing I can say about it is that it will hold any primer brand, including those stinking Federals that come in those huge boxes. Here is a link so you will better understand what I am talking about:

Come on now. We should all be glad that it
"features the patent pending "elevator pin" which safely separates a single primer from the tray reducing the likelihood of tray detonation."
I know that you, just like me have had you evil round tray detonate many times. I am going to order a square one today!

Re: Lee's new priming tool

...back when I reloaded...I used one by them that had the thumb lever and NO tray...had to load every primer singly...didn't care...loaded 100 at the time and watched TV or something...had a ridged tray you'd dump the primers on and shoke 'em....turning them all rightside up...then push my press's loading tube down over them to pick them up...and that was a move toward modern then...had to pull the pin and slide the primer arm over to the tube to get one...this new stuff is all too high-tech for me...

I use the green one, Tim, and love it. It's the only way I prime now.

I also use Ebay to buy all my stuff like that.

Re: Lee's new priming tool

I used to use an old Lee hand primer like Sheepdog until I got an RCBS bench primer. That is faster and more consistent while still having good feel. I like it. By buying two extra primer tubes I can load a full box of primers at once.

Re: Lee's new priming tool

I don't think I would want the longer tubes waving around but I like the tool. It gives ample leverage yet still retains the feel I don't get with the press.
